Seeking Stable NVIDIA Drivers: Feedback on Performance and Stability Appreciated.
Hello,

I'm reaching out today to inquire about the NVIDIA drivers you're currently using and whether you're experiencing stability issues such as crashes and frozen UI menus. I'm on the lookout for a stable version myself. I've tested both versions 551.86 and 551.76, but unfortunately, they seem to be quite unstable in this game.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the drivers you're using and your setup. Additionally, if you're willing to share your system specifications, that would be immensely helpful.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Gaming PC Specs:

OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF (Raptor Lake, 13th Gen) @ 3.0GHz
RAM: DDR5 64GB (16x4 configuration)
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z690-P WIFI
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (Gigabyte) 12GB
Storage: NVMe SSDs only

Things I have tried:
restarting PC, running as administrator, verifying game files, adding "-ignorpipelinecache" as a launch argument, deleting SGA files in RDR2 settings folder, deleting contents of SGA files and making them read-only, deleting settings folder, deleting Rockstar Games directory, turning off XMP in BIOS, turning off CPU virtualization in BIOS, updating graphics driver, uninstalling game completely, removing all files related to the game, clean installing graphics driver, then reinstalling game, switching from Vulkan to DX12, switching from DX12 to Vulkan, lowering all settings, running in safe mode, lowering FPS to 60, turning off triple buffer, turning off V-sync, lowering resolution to 1080, creating exceptions inbound/outbound firewall rules for RDR2, removing firewall exceptions, turning off antivirus and firewall completely, changing priority in task manager to High, clean booting with no unnecessary startup applications, clearing out everything in temp and %temp%, enabling/disabling Async, using DDU to uninstall drivers, reseating graphics card, clean installing Nvidia driver, uninstalling/reinstalling Vulkan, uninstalling/reinstalling DX12, reinstalling C++ redist Libraries, and using Afterburner to underclock GPU core clock by -50MHz.

I've tried most of what you have and I'm on a i5 13600K & 7900XT. I honestly don't know what else to do besides go back to some old AMD drivers and see if that does the trick. This is so frustrating.

Just did the rollback to a old driver. Still get the Gfx Error seems like we need to wait for a fix from Nvidia or Rockstar. Cant play with the new or old driver. Same fixes didnt do ♥♥♥♥. Really pissed.

Thank you for the feedback provided thus far. I'm aiming to streamline the troubleshooting process by narrowing down the driver builds. If you've found a stable driver build, please share its details. Conversely, if you're encountering issues, kindly list the problematic build number. Additionally, the build number 551.23-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql can be disregarded from consideration, as it has been identified to cause crashes. Your contributions are greatly appreciated in this endeavor to optimize system stability.

Tried many previous drivers , game still crashes when changing any graphics setting in the home menu and then does not launch at all...

I've discovered that the most effective way to test game stability is by visiting the trapper in Saint Denis. Simply interact with his menu and stand next to the statue for optimal testing conditions. Next to the statue, there will be 3 NPCs standing in front. Park there for about 15 minutes and then test the trapper's menu.

I understand your frustration with the persistent crashes despite trying different drivers. Could you please share the specific driver builds you've tested? This information will help us pinpoint potential solutions more effectively. Your cooperation is much appreciated as we strive to resolve this issue together. Additionally, considering Rockstar's patching process, previously stable drivers may no longer work the same. This underscores the reason behind this thread: to find a working driver solution, as waiting for a game fix from Rockstar might not be forthcoming seeing as how they do things.

After testing 546.65-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql, it was also found to be unstable and can be crossed off the list. If you're unsure how to find your current Nvidia driver build number, you can locate it by following these steps: Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. From the NVIDIA Control Panel menu, choose Help > System Information. The driver version will be listed at the top of the Details window.

I have run a older version driver for Nvidia 537.58 and have no problems whit the game.
For me is the older version needed to play a older game that runs ok whit it, al new updates after this version whas no succses for me (even on the forum on Nvidia are many complains about the latest drivers)

Thank you for your feedback. I'm still puzzled as to why the game crashes, whether by visiting the trapper in Saint Denis or simply standing there for a while. However, I've recorded some benchmark tests. Upon review, it appears that the latest driver delivers the best performance. At this juncture, I'm inclined to believe that the issue lies not with the driver but rather with Rockstar's coding. I'm concerned that considering Rockstar's update history with this game, we may not receive a fix anytime soon. Hopefully, the community can find a solution independently, as relying on them may result in a prolonged wait.

I'm using the 551.86 driver. Game is very stable and no crashing or stuttering.

Most of the times it crashes doing the benchmark.

452.06 also crashes for me same behavior as the other ones.

First thing to try when using Intel CPUs that have P + E Core design would be:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/02022024-recent-windows-update-has-caused-system/e62c4091-991a-4e2a-b67b-a1f0a219569b

For any RTX 40 series GPU, then 551.86 should be plenty stable.

For RTX 20/30 series I highly recommend staying on 551.23 for now.

However I would recommend that you use the DDU app; run it and change it settings, in the settings tick options to wipe your displays out as well as geforce experience. Do this ONLY after rebooting WinOS into Safe Mode first. After the cleaning, reboot normally. Then first run the Intel Driver Assistant online driver updater and see if updated Chipset Drivers are available for you. If so install these first, reboot when done. Then install NVIDIA Game Ready Driver (and as optional, GFE if you wish). If you do use GFE however, DO NOT use it or enable ANY of its overlays while running RDR2 and DO NOT allow GFE to do an auto "optimize all my games" non-sense. Always do optimize games on a per-game basis.

If your CPU of any kind has an onboard GPU, this can be a problem for both Steam and RDR2. Click StartMenu or press WinLogoKey > type Graphics > click into Graphics Settings > click Browse > add these files to this listing: Steam.exe; PlayRDR2.exe; RDR2.exe ~ Then for each after added, change their Options to High Performance GPU.

If Steam was already running when doing this last part, exit it properly and completely; wait a few seconds after it's fully closed (if unsure it's fully close out all Steam exe stuff; then check Task Manager > Details tab)

MS Defender is not a direct issue with games such as RDR2, however if you use any stricter settings such as Controlled Folders or Core Isolation; those CAN be a problem with MANY games.

Win10/11 default rules already set in place for Firewall are fine as-is; however you have to ensure to double check Windows Network settings that you are set to Private, not Public as THIS is what dictates which Firewall Rules Set gets applied at any given time you are connected to Network/Internet.

After reviewing the logs, it appears that errors are occurring when the system crashes.
Perhaps many of you are also experiencing this error?

The logs can be found ...\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher\launcher.log
