Game Freezing and crashing became worse
Hey Y'all, I've been playing the game for over a year. when first installed - the game ran fine with n problems. Ever since I've started my second playthrough, the game occasionally would freeze - it would still run but all sounds would become muted and the menu would freeze and disappear when hitting the Esc button.
Recently, it has gotten worse, I can't get past a few minutes into the game without this happening.
I'm running a I9-13900KF , 64GB ram and RTX 3090 FE, should be more than enough.
Rockstar are giving me general fix that don't work.
Anyone has a good idea? I miss playing the game.

I have no idea what is going on. This game was running great for me throughout 2023 but right around december an update for this game happened and now I can't play it at all.
Unknown Error FFFFFFFFF. I haven't run into your problem but I still can't play the game. People told me to change graphics APIs but directx12 just freezes the game on loading screens and vulkan crashes after 20 minutes.
I hope we can find fixes for both of our problems but right now it seems like my favourite game is just unplayable

Are you using Windows Defender?

Have you configured the PlayRDR2.exe and RDR2.exe so in their file properties, full screen optimization is disabled?

Run the game in Borderless Window; not Full Screen

Disable Steam Overlay.

What are you using for your Audio Device?

Whatever audio device you use, set it as the default before starting a game. Any other audio options such as GPU HDMI/DP, disable those in Windows Audio Settings so it can't somehow switch to those. Set your Audio Device to 24bit, 48Khz

I just had this happen 3 times. Each time there was a chime and a steam redistributable download, I think that's it. Without that download it has never frozen.
So I just turned on not to download during games I will see how it goes

Turn off Hyper Threading

You are welcome

That shouldn't matter but the game can have issues on modern Intel CPUs with P & E Cores enabled. Try turning off the E Cores

it's strange I have intel of the 12th generation and the game freezes as well as on 13-14 generations

Again, P & E cores.

You can also try this.
Once the game is loaded into main menu, go to Settings in-game. This is simply to avoid accidental clicking while on main menu. Switch to Task Manager > Details > Change Affinity for RDR2.exe to only 8 Cores and see how it does. This is keeping in mind that you are using 12th Gen or newer i7/i9

Then try the Affinity set to 6 Cores.
