HATE the physics
Such a beautiful game but the menus and controls are so clunky it takes all the fun out of it.

Gotta remember all R* games are made for console first.

This wasn't true. GTA 1 was MS-DOS and Windows on April 6th 1996 then Playstation got the game on the 30th. GTA Gameboy Nov 22 1999.

GTA 2 was Windows/Playstation Oct 22nd 1999.

GTA 3 was when the first reverse was. Playstation 2 Oct 22 2001, PC May 21 2002, MacOS 2010, Android/iOS Dec 15 2011

GTA: Vice was PS2 Oct 29 2002, PC May 13th 2003

GTA: San Andreas was PS2 Oct 26 2004, Windows/Xbox June 7 2005

It just continues like that. Titles from the beginning like Monster Truck Madness 64, Wild Metal, Earthworm Jim 3D all in the beginning were N64 and Dreamcast also but not GTA! I used to love replacing the .wav files. Sugar Ray - Fly was the song I used for completing a mission (Something you at the time couldn't do on console at all). Loved that game.

I feel the need to go fire up the old PIII in the spare room now. Weeeee!

As if this game was actually challenging enough to require that. lol

You clearly seem challenged with basic day to day life

This is a "no your mom" tier comeback man. Do better.

Great, had pelts on my 2 horses, saved the gamed, loaded the game: pelts are gone.

The marker system on the map is a disaster! LEARN from KCD, Rockstar!

Also the map always opens at the very bottom, so frustrating.

Got by the sheriff to pay my bounty, out of nowhere (wasn't touching the mouse) my character draws his gun. Great, got shot by the sheriff. Nice BUGS...

I need to collect plants for a William, but I can't pluck any more so I can't give them to him (is not enough). What do I have to do then? They really know how to take the fun out of missions/tasks...

This game really has to make it by its looks as the controls are a total failure.

Exactly...

Shooting random people happens alot.. I shot the shop keeper in Valentine a few days ago, and the law just killed me.. BUT.. the O'Driscols mugging someone next to the tree round the corner.. I couldnt even draw my guns before they short me..

or

Your riding down the road and come across a "random" stranger asking for help.. your helping them to the town, suddenly a wagon passing you, crashes into you or my horse just steers into a tree.. the stranger screams .. then runs off.. Ive lost the "honour" points so many times. Or, if you die.. the game checkpoints half way up a mountain..

These instances are BUGS.. its not about getting Gud

This is exactly what I'm frustrated by. I've lost so much karma or whatever it's called without any intention to do so what so ever.

I'm also struggling to fill the huge down time with something fun to do. Hunting is tedious, the buggy pelt/ inventory management is frustrating.

The motivation to play isn't there because of the little issues that add up in big ways.

Not trying to hate on the game. It clearly has a lot of cool aspects to it. It's gorgeous, and the wild west vibes are incredibly well presented. It's just bogged down by strange engine quirks that kill the immersion.

To be honest, I think the real problem is theres just too many keys and button presses.. Even on controllers.. its just too many systems and mechanics bound to one button or key. at the same time . for example.. The log book, and the Journal, and the map, and the satchel, Herbs.. pelts

Why didnt RS just have one big Journal/log system.. like witcher3

I think the mechanics are bugging out, such as Shooting friend , stranger , animal or enemy.. Dead Eye and Dead eye core, health and health cores, horse and horse cores.. we dont need player health core and horse core to maintain .. just simple health bar

its like a ghost in the machine, trying to manage and prioritise button presses and mechanics at the same time... Not the best.. so it almost takes on a life of its own and manages itself.. and fails

However.. I do think some players here are right in a way.. In order to play this game, you have to develop a RDR2 skill set.. not an FPS skill or a 3rd person RPG skill, but an actual skill for this game alone.. and thats why I think its not for everyone, because some of us players just dont have the time to dedicate because of IRL.. gaming is meant to be a challenge yes, but ultimately .. meant to be fun, not frustrating..
Atomic Monk May 22, 2024 @ 3:42am
I also want to mention 1st person mode.. and to the players who mentioned it in this thread.. its good.. It seems to remove the collision hit box issues around 3rd person Arthur (riding up trees, horse crashing into wagons or off cliffs)

You can also set the game camera options to auto switch between 1st person on foot to 3rd person on horse. but you do have to manual switch back when you get off your horse.. or permanent FPS

It doesn't fix alot, but if you go into game options and set it up properly... it can make a small improvement

So thanks to those who pointed it out ..

There's a lot I do like about RDR2, but I find it hard to keep playing it myself.

The bad controls, clunky movement, and total aimlessness of the storyline all really wear down my enthusiasm to play. Every now and then I end up with literally no missions and no indication on what I should be doing next. I'm assuming I should infer something from his impossible to read diary, but I wish the game just told me what the next objective was.

It leans a bit too hard on the " You're in the wild west......" motif. It's still a game, and games should strive to reduce tedium.

Exactly. It's all aesthetics. Like wow this tree looks cool, this rabbit looks cool, all these pieces of clothing look cool, but the mechanics are total garbage: herky jerky movements and like a constant mini cut scene. You cant even climb up the side of a hill without having a mini cut scene of sliding down the mountain, and maybe dying. It's like an old game given a graphic overlay: a painted pig.

Exactly This .

The game feels like LEAD Dead Redemption because most of the actions, like climbing onto a horse or skinning, are mini cut-scenes integrated into the real-time action. So, everything has to be slowed down in order to allow these min cut-scenes to kick in; and every other action that is not a mini cut-scene, such as running, has to be tweaked (mad more sluggish) to accommodate the slower mini cut-scenes. Thus, everything moves "slowly".

It's the only logical explanation for your character's inability to do something as real-life doable stop as turning on the spot etc..

A gamer accusing another gamer of a short attention span is quite rich.

We all paid for this product, which gives us a right to have a critique.
We all know what works for a good game and what doesn't,
We all know these corporations are always trying to giving less quality for more money.
It's called "good business" and Capitalism, right?
Except sometimes because get tired of getting fed a pile of poo sprayed with gold paint.

It doesn't have to be this way. I just bought Darktide and it's completely the opposite.
It looks great and it's balls to the wall with the precise movement speed and actions.
The guy below your post talks about "skill issues" when we complain about a sluggish af mini-cut scene action sequence to every move. Lol, what a joke.
myhre_jordan May 23, 2024 @ 6:22pm
You just have to accept the game is offering an extremely precise but niche experience. There's plenty of games like what you're talking about, you just named one. There is only one game like RDR2, and IMO the things you're trashing are essential the soul of the game. I mean it's also the natural evolution of RDR1 mechanic and movement wise. If you don't like it so be it, and please critique away, but the game you want this to be would just be a generic action game with the mask of a "western" but not the soul of one.
