dx12 really doesn't like overlays of any kind (which is amusing considering you can't opt out of the rockstar social club overlay)

I'm troubleshooting my own similar crash atm. For me, it was the ReShade overlay asking to press a key to start the ReShade tutorial. Adding in an already-set up reshade.ini to bypass that step fixed the crash. But I'm still troubleshooting and adding things back in, so it might start again.

Everything was stable running the game under Vulkan.

Game is really inconsistent across hardware and settings.
DX12 causes crashing and system wide issues when it does causing drivers to fail.
Vulkan on the other hand is very stable, crashes rarely, and doesnt freak out my PC when it crashes.

Change everything to low and mess around with the settings, and when you do change settings, restart the game every time just to insure the changes stick and the changing doesnt cause a crash.

good luck

DX12 doesn't work for me and gives me the same error unless I disable steam overlay.

This game has been out for quite a while now, running on an extensive amount of AMD and NVIDA video cards. It helps people to know what video card and what CPU your system has in order to troubleshoot. More and more processors are coming with GPU capabilities that sometimes need to be disabled in order to prevent some of these not loading and/or crashing issues.
