In the player menu. (interaction menu) The live menu that you can pull up while moving around. It has the posse options, stable, and the player list, and quick join menus. It also has the "online options" menu. In online options, you can do a few things including switch between offensive and defensive mode.
Defensive mode takes time to activate and deactivate and you can't turn it on if you have had too recent an encounter where you shot at and injured a player or their property. It also only has a few effects. Things like they can't use paint it black on you and your dot will appear faded on the mini-map and can be overlooked because of it's faded appearance.
It does not stop people from attacking and killing you though. If they can aim they can still shoot. They do less damage though so it is much harder for them to kill you in general. (A headshot is still pretty much a headshot)
You will still stay in defensive mode if they are already red.
Exactly also passive mode in gta not help from cheater modders.
For PC, press "L" to bring up a special menu that you can't access otherwise, then scroll down to "Player Options" sub-menu - you can then select between "Offensive" and "Defensive" playstyle.
Note: some activities (mini-quests) will push you to Offensive play style, so remember to check it often.
For PC, a quick touch of left <Alt> key will reveal your current information, and provide a small shield in bottom left of screen to indicate you are in Defensive Mode.
Second Note: You can still be attacked in Defensive mode, but you will take less damage, and the attacker will get much more hostility rating.
Luck - and stick with it.
