CPU overheating
Is anyone having issues with the CPU overheating while playing Red Dead 2? I have recently returned to the game after a few months but I seem to be having issues with my CPU getting far too hot. Rockstar support hasn’t been any help, and through troubleshooting, I can no longer get two of my temperature monitoring utilities to work, even after uninstalling them and reinstalling. My CPU reaches 100C in less than 10 minutes on the lowest settings. My rig is as follows below. Please also note that before reaching out I was having heating issues all around. The same day I moved my build into a new case with better fans and airflow, and new thermal paste was applied. None of my other games were experiencing heating issues anymore, except for Red Dead 2. Any advice? Additionally, I still cannot get either of my temperature monitoring utilities to work since spending a good 3 1/2 hours troubleshooting with rockstar directly, even after uninstalling both programs and reinstalling them. So any recommendations on a new utility to keep an eye on the CPU temperature will be welcome.

The link below will show you my current build, windows and graphics card are all up to date.

someone gave me a fix, goto task manager, and limit your rdr2 applications cpu cores to 3, this brought my cpu percentage down to 70-80%
I have all 6 cores online, all the time, for all applications.

also ill tell you the path so you dont have to look it up, goto task manager, find your rdr2 app and i think you have to double click and make sure you click the exe, right click goto details, in details right click rdr2 and set affinity, this will allow you to change the core which should be set to 3 and this should fix it for you

im telling him a fix which he should try before deciding its his pc, its the game and this fix worked for me, dont just take my word for it, try it. i got a 15-20 fps gain and no stutters anymore either, and i was playing the game fine with 6 cores but its optimized with 3

Blondie, is that you? I seen Jose Wales in another thread. LOL!

Of course you are, I never doubted it.... to throttle his CPU.

Edit: For a game that needs CPU's more than any other game I've seen... and GPU's. Throttle the CPU, and that WILL work.... of course, but it won't be the problem solved, just less processor power to apply to the game. But, why? To make it work, yep... throttle nothing, seek the answer, you will find it.

dont listen to this troll and try my fix of limiting it to 3 cores you can switch it back if you feel like it doesnt work, but you have to make the change while the application is open and restart the game after setting it to 3

What is the point in neutering the hardware he paid for and not resolving his cooling issue?

The CPU should not overheat even at 100% load. Period.

If he OC'd, it's a different story and once again, not the game.

I remember one time after I built my current pc I took it in to get bench tested, and had a once over for part warranty check. When I brought it home it over heated, so I took it back and they turned it on right in front of me and everything was alright. it never over heated again.

the problem I think was that my all in one water cooler had a bubble stock in the tubes or something and it prevented the water from transferring heat from the pad and cpu to the rad.

it might be that you will have to take it all apart and give the parts a shake. not violent, just a like i did when I took it back. I actually hit a couple of pot holes on purpose. sometimes things aren't seated right when you think you did put it together properly. just give it a once over again.
Daemia 17 AGO 2020 a las 6:11 a. m.
Wait... you cannot get any of the utilities for hardware monitoring working? What do you use? HWmonitor should work, if you have issues even runing that... Your problem is much bigger. Reinstall your OS to have a clean start and start testing.

EDIT: Chalko, your problem was completly different. As I've said in your thread, check the Gamer Nexus video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ty-gajwoA

EDIT: completly restore BIOS to default settings. Especially look for any settings that would allow your CPU to ignore TDP limits or the powerdraw limits.

Ever thought a car radiator
with a high air-flow custom epoxy case with 140MM or 180MM case fans would solve a problem.

Old heat-sinks are worth converting over too liquid cooling if you know how to machine parts and press in copper tubes
and, have a DIA & tap set, along with brake-line flaring tool set for a high pressure systems, best too use an in-line fuel-pump designed for small tractors and cars, since their designed too have a higher safety rating and have the same voltage rating as a hard-drive.

You really got too learn too work with tools or your wasting money on junk parts.

The average people using acrylic liquid cooling systems have no clue, they blew money on junk parts when custom parts with $10 dollars of copper fuel line keep a system from going above 30-40 degree's with coil loops on a low budget if you recycle parts and repair them to look new
and know how to work in a shop with respect, you will be better off learning how too solder as-well in-case you ever have too fix a radiator or onboard components with re-work stencils.

Copper plates with gold rated copper thermal paste also helps keep a system cooler than just using graphite sheets/pads, think of all those old GPU;s heat-sinks that can be re-engineered.

Trust me if you learn how too work with your hands, you can turn junk into valuable things, like a PC Case.

I have designs for a ice core looping reservoir systems, so the core's can be removed with out contaminating the mineral oil, TiG wielding aluminium is not difficult and is best learned first before working with iron, just like smelting learn the easy things first and flux mixtures for each grades of metals.
