CPU overheating
Is anyone having issues with the CPU overheating while playing Red Dead 2? I have recently returned to the game after a few months but I seem to be having issues with my CPU getting far too hot. Rockstar support hasn’t been any help, and through troubleshooting, I can no longer get two of my temperature monitoring utilities to work, even after uninstalling them and reinstalling. My CPU reaches 100C in less than 10 minutes on the lowest settings. My rig is as follows below. Please also note that before reaching out I was having heating issues all around. The same day I moved my build into a new case with better fans and airflow, and new thermal paste was applied. None of my other games were experiencing heating issues anymore, except for Red Dead 2. Any advice? Additionally, I still cannot get either of my temperature monitoring utilities to work since spending a good 3 1/2 hours troubleshooting with rockstar directly, even after uninstalling both programs and reinstalling them. So any recommendations on a new utility to keep an eye on the CPU temperature will be welcome.

The link below will show you my current build, windows and graphics card are all up to date.

Reinstall your CPU fan? 100C = ridiculous! Something is wrong on your side.
First thing to check is to see if the cooler system has a tight fit.
Not I. I have an i9 9900KS with an Nvidea RTX2080TI Kinpin, overclocked. With 64 GB ram. The game has never overheated my cpu, or any parts.

Don't think that the game can do that to anyone's cpu. It's got to be something on your end. Is your case big enough to allow good air circulation? I see you have a mid-tower. I use a full tower which allows for better air circulation, and I use a water cooling unit.

BTW my RTX2080TI kinpin has a display unit that shows the temperature of the gpu, and memory. As well as the power used by the gpu/memory, the air rpm, the rpm of my water cooler unit, etc. My gpu and memory can get a temp at most around 42C when playing games.

My cpu's temp is at 33C-35C at most even playing PUBG, RDRO2, or other games like Division 2, or even Horizon Zero dawn.

IMO the problem is at your end.

I kept on thinking it's on my end too, that's why I opted for the new tower. Everything checked out with all the other games today after moving it all into the new setup. Temps were perfect when before in the old case it was overheating like mad. I just find it strange that the only game I'm having heating issues with now is Red Dead.

Or RDR is the only game that stresses your CPU to the point of overheating.
Download a 100% CPU-stress test and let that run for a while.

No. But I also made sure to have overperforming cooling.

I would check the other software that the game needs. maybe re-download them and install it again. It might be a previous display profile, or your windows install. I have had issues with my windows local account profile that did similar things, as well as the amd radoen software tends to be a bit glitchy when overclocking. Maybe it's the nvidia geforce software, and the game profiles, or your overclocking settings.
Turn off xmp

i dont think rockstar sells gpus why is it their problem again? sorry if i come off somewhat rude, but when i have a problem i go after nvidia for it, if its my gpu overheating or my cpu, but thats intel. i did have an issue a while back. random crashes, lockups, pc just spontaniously rebooting. then my friend unplugged my pc and cleaned a literal ton of dust out of it with several cans of air. it hasnt happened again since.......

Use an aftermarket CPU fan, never use the fan that comes with your CPU, especially for gaming.

This was one of the issues I thought may have been causing the issue in addition to a bad case with bad airflow. I upgraded my case and cleaned everything out. The issue is not going to be dust.

No, it's not dust... dust lets you know, it gets loud.

I suppose don't understand what you mean by the dust. Also I am using an aftermarket CPU fan.

I meant, if there's dust on the fan or fins, usually the fan start making loud noises. It's not dust.

But, this is very, very dangerous:

"My CPU reaches 100C in less than 10 minutes on the lowest settings."

"With nearly identical power dissipation and identical cooling conditions, we calculate a mean package temperature of 57°C for the Intel Core i9-9900K..."
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-9900k-9th-gen-cpu,5847-12.html

It's running too hot, stating the obvious I know. That kind of temp may very well kill your processor, I would recommend not using it, or any application that causes that kind of CPU temp... if it's only RDR2, don't play it for now.

"...and new thermal paste was applied."

If you applied the thermal paste, then are you sure it was correctly done.... and, maybe do it again right now... me thinks.

Umm, also, I use Core Temp to monitor CPU temps... a Ryzen.

Idle: 21C,
running RDR2: 30-40C

Something will break at them temps...

Edit: It's late here right now, early morning, so I'm a bit.... mmm in the head. I'll come check this thread after a sleep.

someone gave me a fix, goto task manager, and limit your rdr2 applications cpu cores to 3, this brought my cpu percentage down to 70-80%
