[CAMPAIGN] Profiting from abandoned horses??
Just an enquiry: abandoned horses -- is there any way, other than robbing their saddle bags, to sell them or make horse meat? :steamhappy:

And by "abandoned", well, the O'Driscolls that owned them ... might not ... be coming back for them, is all I mean. I don't want the poor things to "Your horse is dirty" to death and find their skeletal remains later. I am TRYING to be a nice guy, y'know.

edit:
(Um ...

Don't know WHY our friends at R* have to have TWO sets of gameplay setup/rules around something so innocuous, but just to be clear, I am talking about the SINGLE-PLAYER experience. I do not RDO. Ever. But, sure, I accept that you weren't to know that. If you wouldn't mind, could folks answer {again?} with this in mind?)

If you get on one and walk into a stable you can sell the horse. If you have your horse with you then just tell your horse to follow you. Same can be done with wild horses.

Are you sure? I know I can't sell broken wild horses... so, are you sure?

Apparently I'm doing it wrong too. Every time I take a wild horse to the stables it tells me 'You cannot bring the horse into the stables', or something along those lines.

Have you progressed to the point where you are supposed to either sell or keep one of the gangs horses? I don’t think you can do it until after that.

Well great, correct me if I'm wrong. So, enlighten me, HOW?

Edit: And you sound so much like my ex-wife, it's uncanny!

I believe the OP mentioned "the O'Driscolls" in his post.

Are the O'Driscolls also in the Story Mode of the game?

I thought they were only in Online Mode, but I haven't played Story Mode, so what do I know.

I can confirm you can sell wild horses, stolen horses, abandoned horses and enemy NPC horses in late game. I spent several hours one day testing the mechanic.

The stable master will only give you a few dollars because the horse isn't papered but you can sell them. I don't know what triggers exist to allow or block this sale, but it does work.

I think I tried this out when I was at the lemoyne camp if that helps benchmark my progress for you. Maybe I unlocked it somewhere before that.

OKies.... I'll give it a try (again), right now.

Nope, paid for a new stable, took a wild horse in, and got... told to leave. Stable south of Emerald Ranch/Station.

Message: "This horse cannot be brought into into the stable."

And when I caught the wild horse: "You cannot saddle or bond with this horse."

I am Rank 87, and this was in Online Mode.... and stole a horse from a NPC/enemy, and same thing happened, told to leave he stable.

Edit: Can't even store pelts on broken horses, in Online Mode.

Can't skin them, mules exist, but aren't "mounts" that can be stored or bought, and have pelt quality but can't seem to be skinned.

Looting the saddlebags can be decent but annoying at times and generally not worth the time, in single player when you get on a horse or a wagon, the fence symbols on the map (at least some) become destinations to deliver and sell stolen stuff like that.

It is a bit strange to me that you can't shoot your own horse, and that they constantly spawn near you etc, even removing the saddlebag doesn't work well, as in you can't use it to make and move a better camp with all your saddle gear, and even if you could loading and saving teleports things around again, so you pretty much always end up forced to deal with a horse in some way lol.

I got nothing against horses, I just wish there were other options too.

For clarity in my experience (in single player), you can "break" wild horses and take them to a regular stable to be sold, stored, or saddled up etc, so long as you have stable space, and you can't sell the horse that has your saddle on it currently, so you need to swap that out before doing so.

For stolen horses and wagons, there are no wagon fence, or horse fence symbols on the map until you get on a stolen horse or wagon, then certain fence locations can be used to deliver them for cash.
