Legendary Bear Pelt vs helping a woman -- seriously??
First time playing. Went hunting in chapter 2 for the legendary bear with whatsisname. Managed to kill it, skinned it, put the pelt on my horse. A minute down the trail there's a woman trapped under her horse. So I help her up and offer her a ride. Unfortunately, there isn't room for me, her, and the pelt on my horse.

Okay, so, a little moral dilemma -- except it isn't. Woman's problem is she's injured, not that she's in a hurry. So I should be able to put her and the pelt on the horse, then lead it on foot, right? Wrong, I can't, because uh, because.

But I'm stubborn, so I figure I'll ride a little way with her, get off the horse, run back for the pelt, etc., etc. Soon as I walk a little way from the horse, though, she decides I've abandoned her and I lose honor. She won't get back on the horse either. Out of frustration, I quit out and load back in so I can try again -- I'll just take her into town. But now she's nowhere to be seen and I'm informed I abandoned the pelt as well.

This game has gotten such glowing reviews about immersion and NPC responsiveness and so on, but this isn't exactly inspiring me with confidence. Still seems to me like the devs have their ideas about what reasonable actions are convenient for their purposes and which are inconvenient, and they're not interested in accommodating the inconvenient ones.

Should have just shot her, sure you lose a bit of honour but she was a whiny cow and you had things to do.

Most people would have understood.

After all, it was the olden days.

I had almost the exact same situation, but it was a perfect cougar I needed. I think if you just ride on you'll eventually get the same encounter and whatever rewards.

Many of those little side quests will simply popup at a later time if you simply ignore them. Sometimes they can be forgotten and might not be though if you progress much further into the Story Missions, or progress to a new chapter. But keep in mind, in both RDR2 and RDO, the game engine seems to pull this on purpose, where things would seem to popup more often like that when you have a carcass or large pelt taking up the space on your horse's backside.

Do not feel as if you MUST complete every little side quest that comes along (aka Strangers Missions) as again for many of those, the game knows you can't always do them exactly as they popup, and thus can repeat them at a later time. When they do reappear, it might be a different location even, so keep that in mind as well.

If you fulfill the requirements of the Compendium and game Achievements, what more is there really. If you knew how many times in RDO that someone (NPC "Stranger") called out to me for help while I'm in the middle of doing Trade or Moonshine deliveries. Hmm yea sorry I can't just abandon my money making tasks, sorry. See you next time :lunar2019grinningpig:

this happened to me too, but just to say a few things. you dont have to sell the pelt to the trapper to craft the clothing needed, you can abandon it, but you wont get the money by selling it

Yes true, as long as it's a Legendary you can just toss it on the ground and it auto goes to Trapper. Rockstar designed story mode this way because there is only ever one of each Legendary in Story Mode.

In RDO that method doesn't work and you will lose it if you do that.

I still wish Story Mode by default had the option to buy or rent a hunting wagon. It sure would help.

Also in Story Mode if it's a legendary you can pickup, like a Cougar or Buck for example make sure you skin it as you need the other item off the animal for Fence such as tooth, claw, antler; etc. If you skin a Legendary that was able to be picked up, you do have a use for the bare corpse, take that and sell to a Butcher.

I’m going to have to agree with Man o' War on this one….
I would have shot her and said my prayers later at bed time.

Besides,, FAT stacks of cash with the Legendary Bear pelt.

Well.some of those characters you can kill and rob and they will just repawn at a later time.

This actually happened to me in a weird way and it worked out in the end. Northwest Annesburg you can find a guy near a cliff area and when you see him, he has got his ankle caught in a bear trap. Well when I found him I confirmed where the screaming was coming from and looking at him through binoculars. Next thing you know, a dam Cougar comes ans pounced on him. That really was random bad luck and was not supposed to happen. I killed the Cougar and all but still. So about 1 week later I found the same guy again and was able to help him out of the trap. It's a mashing button game, then you give him liquor for the pain.
