DLSS Version
Hello everyone! I have a question. I'm using DLSS version 3.5.1 because, in my opinion, it looks better than the 2.2.1 version that comes with the game (at least in motion).
The thing is that I have only tried it in story mode, if I use it in online mode is there a possibility that I could get banned? (without having other mods installed, of course).
Thanks in advance!

Hey
Im using 2.5.1.0 instead of default 2.2.1.0 and not banned yet (playing online only for ~year with this version).
I cant guarantee that YOU wont get banned, but nothing happened to me yet.

If your using DLSS mod from nexusmods:
A risk to get banned
If your just swapped the DLSS DLL file in your RDR2 folder manually
No ban whatsoever

I myself using DLSS 3.5 DLL file (no nexus mods)

What does DLSS stand for

It's basically a game setting on NVIDIA cards that massively boosts performance by rendering the game at a lower resolution and then upscaling it back to the original with little to no quality difference, also being an anti-aliasing option at the same time. I think AMD cards had a similar setting but i'm not very knowledgeable on that

RDR2 uses an older version of DLSS (2.2.10) which has a number of issues. Been using myself DLSS 3.5.10 with the .dll file change trick and it looks sooo much better in comparison.
Haven't played online yet but I highly doubt you'd get banned for that (considering the amount of complains of hackers that Rockstar doesnt do anything about)

I wish they'd make a DLSS version that doesn't make hair/shadows look awful and cause a bunch of horizontal lines to appear in water reflections, the little extra FPS isn't worth it for me and I'm still sticking with medium TAA.

Perfect, and yes, I've replaced the .dll file manually.

Yeah, I find these new versions of DLSS great as an anti-aliasing method and it's the main reason I choose to use it apart from the best performance.

With DLSS version 2.2.1 that's a pretty common thing, but with the version I'm using right now (3.5.10) I haven't witnessed any of that (or at least nothing that's a major and distracting issue).

DLSS looks like crap no matter what in RDR2, you're way better off finding other settings to tweak and turn down slightly then attempt to use DLSS. It looking awful no matter what is mainly due to the game, not so much which version DLL file for DLSS you use. Although that can help using a certain version DLL for performance and stability reasons, it doesn't really help in visually quality, there is always a very bad noticeable visual quality loss in RDR2 whenever you use DLSS or FSR.

Just turn it off and avoid it in this games. There are plenty of other ways to gain some FPS.

In RDO high FPS may help and this should yield higher FPS anyways because whenever you play RDO it does not load in nearly as much animals and NPCs as it generally would when you free-roam in Story Mode. Story Mode is a bit more demanding overall. However in Story Mode you can also run into all sorts of random issues when keeping the FPS quite high. For Story Mode it's best to enable VSync (as well as GSync / FreeSync if you have it available) and also enforce a 60 FPS Cap as well. Then for RDO, simply disable the FPS cap.

Leaving DLSS or FSR set to a certain setting can also randomly crash the game at startup as well. So there's another reason to avoid it.

I use DLDSR + DLSS and it looks great!
I don't use it for the FPS improvement, with an rtx3080 I can play at native 1440p with the ultra preset (and more with the advance options) at a very good framerate; but, with the combination I mentioned at the beginning, there is nothing that beats that pristine visual quality.

Maybe I'll give it another try.
