Congratulations Rockstar
Despite me having Windows 11 I cannot play Red Dead Redemption 2 at all due to Compatibility Issues. How do I fix this?

I don't understand...I can't help anyone because I don't know what the issue is, why it won't launch. Getting very angry with Rockstar right now. I have Windows 11 but the game won't launch. They removed support for any OS older than Windows 10, but like I said I have Windows 11 and I still get this error message to check my Compatibility Settings despite my computer having Windows 11.

Such a bad lier, how can I play just fine then on both windows 10 and 11? You might check you system first, both hardware and software then put the blame on devs :steamsalty:

Are you sure there are NO .exe's in the launch process set to run with modified windows compatibility? R* launcher/oatcher .exe's - check all. Social club .exe's - check all. Game .exe's - check all. (rightclick, properties, compatibility). These are 'usually' - in c / program files / rockstar games / launcher, and c / program files / rockstar games / social club. rdr2 exe's will be wherever the game is installed - via steam, you can rightclick rdr2, properties, installed files, browse installed files.

edit - and removing compatibility mode on the steam.exe as well~

There were 'fixes' in the past that had people toggle that to get the game to work.

edit - Pre-update test - I just now flipped them on launcher, launcherpatcher, and rdr2.exe - and am told I am on win 7. Undid them and works fine. I'd start there.

edit - Post update test - it throws a different box/error talking about win10.
Same fixes.

And of course - like I had already stated - who knows what the 'update' today did.
Plenty of others I know are working fine on win11 after. Need more details.

And of course -

/goodluck anyway~

How do I cahnge the Windows version? Windows 11 is not listed in theCaptibility Tab.
psykoteky Feb 7, 2024 @ 9:56am
You do not change to 11. You do not use compatibility at all. If it is checked - uncheck it.
Roon72 Feb 7, 2024 @ 9:59am
It is Unchecked. It still doesn't work.

Compatiility program I downloaded says it's on Windows 8. I don't know what to do. I told you guys I'm computer illiterate. I don't know what to do. I don't know why I have Windows 11, have compatibility off and it's not working.

You check - R* launcher.exe, R* launcher patcher.exe, and every other .exe in that folder to be sure. c / program files / rockstar games / launcher

Then, you go check c / program files / rockstar games / social club - all .exe's to be sure.

Then you go check your rdr2.exe, and all .exe's to be sure.

edit - and removing compatibility mode on the steam.exe /restart steam as well~

If absolutely every single one of them has NO checkmark - you need to give more detials.
There is also a link above to R* support (hah).

edit - None of this is flipped by default. That means if any ARE flipped - something did it.
edit - this is one of the exact reasons I quit remote'n in and helping people.

I want to do that but I have no idea where all these are. I wish I had someone in this house that knew computers. I'm swearing off Modern Games after this if this is how complicated they're going to get.

Get the game on console then OP.

The game works fine on Win 11.

There are plenty of tutorials online or on Youtube on how to use a PC, no offence.

I'm working with someone on a discord Channel right now. And I'm too old, too confused to understand these Youtube tutorials. They are confusing me even more and some not even working. I wish there was someone in this house that can physically fix this issue for me. I just don't understand.

I hope you get it fixed.

No offence, but there are people who I personally know who are a lot older than yourself, and they know what to do with gaming on a pc, the only thing stopping you from learning and being empowered to deal with pc gaming issues, is you.

I get that it is overwhelming, but it gets easier over time till its second nature.

Good luck

Well...after the Update Rockstar magically set my defaults to Run As Administrator. It's either that or the last person I let "borrow" my PC to play the game. It wasn't me, like I said I am computer illiterate. Had to have the help of a 3rd Party software and a user on a Discord server to fin that out.
