Error: GFX State
We have tried everything to fix this issue, seems to happen when it auto saves.
Updated drivers(1080ti FTW3), everything on the PC updated via CMD winget, flip flop from DX12 to Vulkan, pipeline startup argument, deleting all DXCaches, resolution 1.5, verify files, uninstall and reinstall. A temporary fix was disabling autosaving but it had eventually crashed again. Disabled Steam and Geforce Overlays, we do not have MSI Afterburner, and I disabled the Shader Cache in the Nvidia Control panel, changed the pagesize cap and the 1st reply to this post.. Im probably forgetting things but thats a good list there.
what we have yet to do is undervolting or checking to see if its a CPU temp problem and reapplying thermal paste but Idk what auto saving has to do with the CPU. Any other ideas?

Ok, here's something 'new', I found not long ago and have been using for the past 15 minutes of play and it's working fine.

After your most recent crash, look for the 3 files in the C:/Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings, folder .. which should be named ..

sga_win32_60_final_init.d3d12PipelineCacheWindows

sga_win32_60_final_init.d3d12WarmupCacheWindows

sga_win32_60_final_init.pipelineMarkerFile

If you've previously deleted these as part of any suggestion to help fix this issue, don't worry, start the game again and play it .. keep playing until the game crashes again.

Go to the Settings folder and change all the above named files to READ ONLY.

The first file in my list maxed out at 45mb .. and making it READ ONLY ensures it cannot go beyond that, and for whatever reason, apparently cause the GFX crash.

Like I say, for me, so far so good .. I hope this helps :)

I'll update in about an hour, if the game has or has not crashed, either way.

Well, it lasted nearly an hour, which is a lot better than the 2 or 3 minutes previously.

Everything was going fine until I tried to interact with the Stewing Pot in my camp.

Then crash.

Yeah no luck here and even just tried editing the pagefile cap

I don't think it was the old 'bloat' problem with the SGA files, this is something else, as I could interact fine with other dynamic objects and objects with menus, such as my horse or the normal campfire, to make coffee.

No, this crash only occured .. and has happened twice now, so I'm forcing the game to restart in 'Safe Mode' .. when I interacted with the camp Stew Pot.

I was able to interact fine with the Stew Pot in 'Safe Mode' .. and right now, I'm going through all my graphic settings one by one, to see which of them it is that is causing the GFX crash .. as the game works fine in Safe Mode, so it has to be a setting.

Interested in seeing what you find. I turned off everything or tried to that I dont use on other games.

Getting the same issue suddenly. Cannot fix, watched video after video with fix and forum suggestions and still it crashes anywhere between 15 and 50 minutes.

I'm gonna suggest a truly radical idea here that should surely fix the error (as it did for me). Update your graphics card driver to the newest possible version that you possibly can. This may sound like a difficult concept but it's really not. Rockstar even created a thread on their support website about this very topic (and other iterations of it) a few years back and provided links to most common graphics card vendors so you could update the drivers yourself. Please refer to the article here: http://support.rockstargames.com/articles/360037892194/Red-Dead-Redemption-2-on-PC-exited-unexpectedly.

I'll check it out. Appreciate the response.

My friend is getting the same error. Tried everything we can think of to fix the issue with no resolution. He can't even get through the tutorial without it crashing. If you figure out a fix, I would appreciate knowing what resolved the issue for you.

Make sure your OC (if you have one) is stable. Disable HAGS in Windows and set "Enable low-level IO driver" in MSI Afterburner to off (if you use one). Also set your TDR Level to 0, there are tutorials out there how to do that. And last but not least - switch API to DX12 from Vulcan (or vice versa)
