Online really sucks

all the level restrictions alone make it beyond frustrating to play. I can't play the way I want, I have to play the way the game tells me to until I've reached a high enough level to do what I actually want to do.

Yeah, the early-game grind is WAY worse in Red Dead Online than it is in GTA Online. :/

A lot of my friends gave up on this game because of that. :(

I believe some of the level requirements can be purchased away with gold bars, so it's just Rockstar strong-arming people into buying gold.

Eventually things become affordable as you unlock the Roles and higher levels, but it takes a mountain of grinding to get there. o_o

Sadly, that appears to be modern-game-design 101 these days: manufacture a problem so you can sell a solution. :P

Buy collector's role and you can level up fast af doing it. Or play call to arms. You can collect collector's items even without role, tho it might be a bit confusing what you're doing without it (or not). Use this map i.e. https://jeanropke.github.io/RDR2CollectorsMap/ and collect cards and bottles, maybe flowers/eggs too. Many other items can require tools you can't access without role. (using left panel you can filter items by tool required).

I just started myself... I've hit so many bugs that have either locked the game up, crashed it or got me stuck in an animation. Sometimes I haven't even been able to pull my weapons at all for some reason. Sad that they just left this game to rot...

the bug that your character seems to be stucked is new i started last week and never had problems since i use solo lobbys but sometimes the ground texture looks muddy and then i have to restart the game

I grinded a lot of GTA Online and it was fun. I just picked up RDRO this week.

After couple of hours I unlocked the Bounty Hunter role, which is boring AF. It gives the exact same payout as the strangers, and it's the same type of quest. Fetch that dude dead or alive and that's it.

I don't know how people can play that game until level 150+. I'm level 11 and I already want to quit.

It's clear this online mode was a cheap money grab utilizing the RDR2 engine and assets to further milk the population.

Yeah, RDO was not fun at all for me. It was a giant series of fetch quests with maybe a bit of window dressing as "fetch a bounty target" or "fetch a wagon" or whatever, with some mouse-clicking practice (CTA, naturalist) thrown in. And then you get griefed by cheaters spawning giant alligators while dressed as the KKK.

No need to buy Gold. You can easily earn the Gold legit just by doing Daily Challenges. Also you can get at least 1 friend who's higher level and as long as they have a Paid Role such as Trader, Moonshine, Bounty Hinter help them complete missions to gain gold.for yourself as well. Just from daily challenges and keeping a daily streak going you could earn enough gold per week to pay for all the Roles
