Does the story/pace pickup at any point?
Been looking for a reason to play this but always felt it was slow.

the game is as fast as you want it really.
if you just do story missions then you can complete the game in 4 hours or so and the missions become abit more fun so to say towards the mid to late game. if your like me and just take your time then it can be a very slow but still enjoyable game.
if you have never played the story i would defo recommend playing through it.

the story is very much scripted, and pretty consistent once you start Chapter 2.

however, a large portion of the entertainment value is from side quests and open world, imo.

if you're playing just for the story... well, i bet the book (or any book) is better.

Red Dead never really picks up. It's a long game, it has a lot of riding, talking and doing stuff, but in the end the story pays off. Though if you do not find it entertaining, then I guess I'm sorry. Cause it really is very good.

It’s the late 1800s. I didn’t expect much action, and the game suffers from being too easy for the consoles kids.

It IS slow, but I still love the game due to the details in the 1800s architecture, the great expanse between tiny towns, and the beautiful landscapes. Spending a small fortune in real life to camp at the mountains is not my cup of tea, but I get to do it in the game.

It may start slow, but trust me, after you get out of the snow and then going further into the world, then it is a story to remember. I played through the main story for the 3rd or the 4th time at the moment and it is very rich.

Seems to be one of those games where you kick back on the couch, beverage of choice in hand, while taking your time absorbing the scenery, story coming secondary. Maybe I could force myself to play it if the movement and controls weren't so clunky, tbh. It's a common Rockstar trait to have your character move around like a haggard drunkard... no wonder I didn't particularly enjoy GTA :|
