how far do i need to go?
I've watched several playthrus of this game and I'm not interested in going thru that story again. I just want to ride around and interact with the locals and hunt or fish. So how far into the story should I go so I don't miss any unlocks or areas or whatever?
And thanks in advance for your time

some stuff only unlock at certain chapters
but at chapter 2 you can fully unlock the map if you want to but not new austin or blackwater areas
and hunt for some pelts

Without Mods then you will need to play through the Chapter 2 missions until Arthur takes Jack fishing. Once this has been completed you can basically go off on your own for hundreds of hours if you wish to do whatever.

This is a good time to take a long pause and if you want, go do other things.

I explored the entire map for the most part before even starting Chapter 3, as well as going around and getting treasure maps and also going to areas that don't require a map and grabbing up the various gold bars.

^ That's an option as well. Plus you'll have your own created character, male or female and once you get through the intro of RDO you can feel free to explore and hunt throughout the entire map, including New Austin. Plus you have other stuff to do, such as Trader, Moonshiner, Collector, Naturalist, Bounty Hunter.

Free roaming around as Arthur in Story Mode while avoiding story missions really isn't all that much fun, unless you mod the game.

I'm really not interested in joining an RDR2 server with a bunch of "possibly" toxic players, is there a single player version? Free roaming around as arthur not being fun is a subjective viewpoint but I've been wanting to do that since I watched Gopher's playthru.
Also the character creation is awful in RDO. The face is always ugly and unreal looking.

Can I install RDR2 mods with Vortex?

Even with Mods, you'll still need to reach a certain point within Chapter 2 before the game world is "open" to you.

You don't need a bunch of mods really.

But I can recommend a few good ones if you like.

RDR2 is just you, there is no online when playing story mode.
Online mode is a seperate game within RDR2; aka Online Mode / RDO.
Story Mode = Single Player.

It is really easy to have a private lobby. Check here on Steam for the instructions. It takes minutes to do and you are completely safe man.
