Audio isn't working [Solved]
Hi everyone. I recently got this game, but have been having some issues with the audio. I can hear the shotgun blast but the audio goes completely silent upon entering the title screen. It also silences audio on all other applications as well. Interestingly enough, if I use outplayed to record the entire session, I can hear all the in game audio (and audio in other applications) perfectly fine. This is the first time I've ever had an audio issue like this in any game, and am really confused. I made sure all of the audio was set correctly in volume mixer, I made sure everything was on the right device in sounder mixer, used task manager to close all other applications, and made sure drivers were updated.

I have no idea what to do, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to play this game, so any help would be appreciated.

Also I am using wireless headphones if that matters at all, but again, I have never had any other audio issues with any other game, so I don't think that's the problem.

do you have open OBS or any else?

No, the only screen recording app I have used with this game is outplayed

Plug in and set the headphones as default playback device in Windows prior to game launch disable all other playback devices such as AMD/NVIDIA HDMI/DP Audio.

Disabling all other playback devices does not work.

Open the Windows Volume Mixer before launching the game, once it's at the in-game main menu double check Setting > Audio. Then ALT+TAB and check the Volume Mixer

Checked it again, and everything is set to the correct setting. I'm just curious since if I capture the session and listen back to it, all the audio is there. It's also odd that it cuts audio to all other applications while rdr2 is open.

That's not RDR2 doing that then that's something on your system.

Possible, but doubtful. I've been using other applications with audio all day (not to mention the last year) without issue. This has only ever happened with rdr2. I tested it by playing a video in the background while I launched the game, audio was fine until the home screen where the audio suddenly cuts, both times I tested it. Knowing how infamous this game is for not working properly, it's probably the cause.

Are you on Win10 or 11?

What you want to try is this:

I HAVE FIXED IT!

So, I am on Windows 10, I went to start, hit the cog for Windows Settings, System > Sound, then while Red Dead was running clicked on the App volume and device preferences button under the input section. I went to Red Dead Redemption 2's Output and Input boxes and selected my headsets option in them. I now have glorious sound, though I can also hear Cripps again, win some you lose some.

Already checked it

I'm getting very close to requesting a refund

You checked that audio section WITH the game actively running?
