if I buy red dead, do I get the online version?
my buddy gave me red dead 2 and I'm wondering if it includes the online version or if you have to buy the online version separately.

It does include online. The online only version that is for sale is for people who just want to play online, and not the story mode.

There are 2 packages that are on sale, one is for $19.99 & the other one is for $29.99 & they are both for sale atm.

The other one is marked as Red Dead Online for $9.99 & that one is just the online part i guess.

Unfortunately yes and it makes the install needlessly bloated. The only games that work with the online format are games built from the ground up to be more fun with friends... Not games focusing primarily on story.
