Pearson not playing poker (Story Mode)

So I'm in Chapter 2 and try to get the compass quest. However, no matter what time of day I try or how often I reload, it's always John, Lenny and Uncle with me at the table. Pearson never joins the round.
Are there any conditions for him to play poker?

according to powerpyx.com he should give you the quest in chapter 2, in camp, between 0800 and 2000......doesn't mention poker. Compass is located at a farm south of rhodes

He does not have to play Poker that happening is just random.

I've had him ask both ways. One time out of many playthroughs he did ask me, but playing poker w/ him was just a coincidence as he asked after leaving the game, I then also got him and we were able to have the talk. But in all my other playthroughs, poke game was never a factor, I caught him after the strew was ready to eat and it was triggered that way.

Some of them are bugged. Like I can know when it should happen and it doesn't even after staying in camp, sleeping, etc. and trying to get it to trigger. Then I'll go out hunting, bring back some stuff to donate to Pearson and it's often triggered after this when he walks away from the table after you're done with the donations.

Also for Hosea, there is a catch to his asking for a certain item. Where he has to witness you reading the book next to his sleeping bag (right next to the box of whiskey) and when he does this should trigger him to ask you to find him a certain kind of book. I think his can be triggered in Chapter 2 or 3

Thanks for your replies. Only problem now if playing poker is not necessaray, Pearson also doesn't give me the quest at any other occasion. And I have spent a lot of time in the camp and donated almost anything necessary for all updates.
Starting to wonder if I may have done the quest already very early and just forgot about it.

If you did the quest already and then un-sure, then you probably never grabbed the reward for it. If you never picked up the reward yet, the quest will still appear in your Log. Look in that with L key.

Guides say this is available in Chapter 2.

However it might not actually be available until Chapter 3, or very late in Chapter 2.

So be mindful of that please.

According to the map, I haven't been anywhere near the compass location yet, so I can rule out the possibiliy that I have done the quest already.
My next (and currently only) story mission is to get someone out of Strawberry Jail. No idea how far that is into Chapter 2 - didn't want to spoil too much. Anything noteworthy triggered by that mission?

Yea you might be too early in Chapter 2 then. Try back later.
Check your missions for Chapter 2; that chapter has 17 missions.
If you are not at least half way through Chapter 2, it is too early for Pearson to ask you.

I checked, and I am only missing Micah's rescue, Strange Kindness and Blessed are the Meek. I would consider that way beyond "half-way" through Chapter 2. We'll see, I am going to get Micah out of jail now.
