Broken pirate sword pickup??? bug??ß

I'm in lvl2 and i stand above the broken pirate sword and want to pick it up; it shows "tab" to pick it up, but nothing happens to it, it opens the weapon slot, but which any slot put it in.
Is it for a later chapter or NOT?

Tap tab quickly, don't hold it down as if you're looking through your weapon wheel.

The controls and instructions can be vague at times.

SPOILER - There's also a pirate hat to find (it's not really a pirate hat but it's close enough to become known as the pirate hat).

It's on a shipwreck and not easy to see or find, happy hunting, happy pirating.
