NVIDIA GPU Driver 532.03
This driver I tested all day long with RDR2.
Win10 22H2 on one machine, Win11 22H2 on the other.
Overall works very well compared to any of the buggy 531.xx drivers. So far so good. Most stable Driver from NVIDIA I've seen for this game since 522.25

Are you talking about the update GeForce Game Ready driver that came out yesterday?

Yes, as it seems many users were having issues after using 531.79 and wanted to know if the latest 532 driver was any better. It definitely is. Where as 531.79 seems like nothing but problems when it comes to RDR2.

A very strange case. Yesterday I received a message about the update as usual, and immediately after the message, microfreezes appeared in the game. I didn't install anything!!! Why did the message bring microfreezes?

Probably because of it displaying on top of the game.
Another reason I don't like or use Geforce Experience.
No need for that.

Do you mean that the game was constantly referring to this message and that's why microfreezes appeared?

No I mean how Geforce Experience uses an overlay to display Desktop messages. Like in reference to a new driver version being available to download/update to. Any time something displays over top of another with an overlay, it might cause some performance issues with some apps/games.

Nothing to worry about though, just a coincidence

Nothing to worry about. True. I decided not to install the update yet, but just rebooted the computer. Micro-friezes in the game disappeared. It's strange that a fairly powerful computer reacts to such a trifle.

Why is 532.03 better? How can this be seen in the game?

Well for one 531.68 and 531.79 constant proved to have stutter related issues in RDR2; all of that is gone now. And the game was stable, we took turns (a few family members) going around, loading up different saved games that are at different parts of the game; each us just playing around in the game and overall it proved to be very stable, not causing the game to crash at all. Game was running on each machine for well over 10-12 hours. No problems to speak of. Again, most stable NVIDIA GPU Driver I've seen since 522.25

See, new drivers arent always problems!

I may try it, but must admit that Im scared to since the 531.68 seems to be doing ok for me now. I just dont want to mess with it anymore, im tired of it. ive spent many hours now trying to figure out why the game wont load saves from the opening menu all of the time. What a headache, and it ruins the gaming experience.

I do notice that there is a slight screen flicker from time to time in the game for me. I think its related to HDR maybe. Ive never seen it before. I wonder, is this one of the ill effects you mention when you say 531.68 has stutter problems? The graphics dont stutter for me, animation is perfect, its like the whole screen flickers really quick, fast.

geforce experience recently around this year or so got an update that made it so that all driver updates would be automatically downloaded so that when you get that message, it's actually notifying you that the new one is currently being downloaded and by clicking the notification, it will take you to the geforce app showing the download and will install it after it is done downloading.

before, it would just ask you if you wanted to download first, THEN you had the option to install it.

now it seems bent on doing the download portion first without our permission, and we only get to choose when we install it now.

anyway, this is why it causes microstutters, because the app is downloading the driver in the background. - it's not actually supposed to do this btw.

No, you just set the GFE options to "Check for Updates Only"

my literal entire point is that it set the setting to download automatically in an update earlier this year.

so if you didn't know about it, you would most likely be getting these issues like sergio stated.

a notification shouldn't make your game bog down at all.

what it did for me was notify me as well, but when i actually opened up geforce experience it had already downloaded the driver.

it has been reverting this setting with every update to the app since the beginning of the year, so" just set the GFE options to "Check for Updates Only"" doesn't actually work when the app updates that setting.

to clarify, i mean updates to the geforce app itself.

driver updates do not change the setting.

but every time this year the app has updated and changed this setting to download in the background, even though i am playing a game, - which like i said isn't actually something the app is supposed to do at all.

it should be able to automatically download drivers, but automatically doing so with a game running is a bug.

It's nothing new. GFE always was configured by default to auto download the latest driver. Even if that happens while you're playing a game I doubt it would bog down the game unless the PC specs were barely enough to run the game and such. It's not going to auto install the driver though just auto download it. But yea you can change the settings within GFE to make it stop doing that. This way it only notifies you of an update.
