RDR2 crashing in loading screen

Every time I try loading into the game, a few of the photographs show up, before the game freezes for a couple seconds then crashes. I have tried so many things and none of them work.

Here is a list of things I've tried (that didn't work):
• Restarting computer
• Verifying game files (x3)
• Updating drivers
• Switching from DX12 to Vulkan API (I switch to Vulkan, then reload the game only to find that it's switched back to DX12 again)
• Running game as administrator
• Disabling AMD in-game overlay
• Disabling Steam in-game overlay

Any help that someone could provide would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

How do you turn DLSS and FSR off? What are those...sorry noob here...

If you can get the game to boot to the opening menu screen, then you can just turn them off there in the graphics menu. I cant remember if either is enabled by default.
If you cant even get to the opening menu then you have to go into the settings folder for the game. Ive never looked for it, but others have described on here how to find that.

I've been lucky and have never had a problem with RDR2 and I was playing today with the son, everything was fine. But now neither game will verify activation game ownership.

Yesterday about this time, the game wouldn't load either, but in an hour or so, it worked just fine again.

I assume that R* is having an issue on their end which for certain doesn't help those having other issues.

Tried all that and same issue as player in the first post. Get to watch the photos fade in and out, and then it just crashes out. Did the same for multiplayer.

Guess I lost $23 because Steam wont refund it... =\

Tried the different drivers...and all the suggestions here, maybe my 'puter is just getting old.

Ok, thats the same problem I had when I started playing it a few weeks back. I was able to finish the 1 player campaign and so im thankfully done with the game and havent been on in a few days.
For me what fixed it was rolling my Nvidia driver back to 531.8 and then in the menu turning off DLSS before I tried to load a save. I was using DX12.

I am using a 3080ti and still had this problem, and an I9 CPU. System RAM is 64 GB. Mine still was screwed up with this problem until I made the changes above. I saw on this forum that somebody else turned off DLSS, so I tried that and it worked. I was able to turn on DLSS once the game was loaded, and then would turn it off before I quit for the evening.

Updated to latest GPU Drivers is a problem.
Use 532.03 or older for NVIDIA.

Delete everything in the Settings folder in the Documents > Rockstar Games > RDR2 foldet

Really? Maybe you dont have a Nvidia GPU? Im thinking its only there if you do. I dont know because I have one so have no way of knowing if it would be gone if I used AMD. It wont work on AMD. I figured it would at least be on there but grayed out or soemthing.

In there click Browse/Add > navigate to the RDR2 game folder > select PlayRDR2.exe and then change its options to High Performance GPU. Do this again and add RDR2.exe as well.

Then try launching the game.
Again go delete everything in the Settings folder so the game loads up with default graphics settings. Once game loads, change to correct Screen Res + Refresh Rate. Disable VSync. Apply and exit the game, relaunch and play.

Do we have any idea why some customers had that happen to them and most did not? Ive got a GPU built into my CPU and didnt even realize it, but yet this did not happen to me apparently.

I had this same issue happen to me, but I never went in and made this change you mention. My issue was fixed after I rolled back my driver and turned off DLSS.

crashed during benchmark for me with Err_GFX_State already had R*s useless support telling me try thing i have already tried and had in my original message...I got pissed off at their incompetence and just told then to get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and don't expect me to buy any future games since they CANNOT be trued to ensure they work

Its not DLSS i had an OLDER version of the game archived and it still crashes this is an issue with R* breaking the game and then ignoring the fact they broke it thinking that people will just keep shovelling money at them so they can break more games

same for me my graphic settings messed up and firs time game crashes after 536 update nvidia

536.23 is working perfectly fine (at least for me).
