Randomly crashing
Is anyone else's game crashing after maybe 30 or so minutes of playing? Trying to play Red Dead Online with my partner and the game will just crash at random times. Never had an issue running Red Dead until now. Heard there was a driver issue from the latest update?

Clear the Steam cache.
Verify the game file integrity via the Steam file integrity utility, then make sure you are using DX12 and NOT Vulcan graphics API from the game settings. this should fix the issue. Did for me.

1) Change default graphics API to DirectX 12 instead of Vulkan

Launch Red Dead Redemption 2
From the main menu, select Settings.
Select Charts.
Under Advanced Settings, select "Unlocked".
Under Graphics API, select DirectX 12
Save your settings, but do not restart the game.
Return to the Main Menu.
quit the game
Launch Red Dead Redemption 2

Spread the message!

I cant even play RDR2 cause of a steam error and I've done pretty much everything

can confirm this fix works...its 2023 Nov. i just got this error, for no reason in middle of a play session that was working fine for the last week, didnt update any hardware or software, error just began for no reason, started with the stable/horse bug actually... once i got that, and tried relaunching the game, just kept getting consistent crashes regardless of me entering the stables. It just started happening anywhere after that, switching from Vulkan Api, to DX12 has prevented further crashes.

I sometimes get out of memory error as well. With a 3090 and a 64gb ram. Resizeable Bar disabled as well. Sometimes error sometimes straight up crashing. Reinstalled the game; tried both dx12 and vulkan. Tried deleting cache as well. MSI Afterburner is closed as well. Don’t know whats the problem…

There was an update pushed out recently and now the game will freeze after about 30 minutes of playing single player.

The switch to DirectX 12 fixed the problem, but I can't run it with DLSS enabled or it just crashes as well, which sucks, anyone else got this problem?

OK guys, like I mentioned; I did everything and finally this FIXED:

CLOSE THE OVERLAYS.

Close MSI, Nvidia and even the Steam overlay. Now I can play with ease.

i rolled back to amd driver 23.10.2 and seems to be fine and didnt crash at all :). it was the current driver 23.11.1 that caused the issue

I had radom crashes too ! ! The game just closes by itself since halloween update ends ! ! Sometimes after 30 minutes last time after maybe 5 or 10 minutes no error messages nothing in the event viewer ! ! I noticed tho that it happened tonight 2 times and I was having a game update on MK 1 on steam it was a long update and I play on rockstar launcher because I don'tt have the steam version ! ! Was it because of the big update going on in the back ground? I have an rtx 4090 and 64 gig ram and I9 13900K ! !
