But yea I get what you're saying.
I really don't understand it. The whole gaming community wanted to really love and embrace this game, not just the launch story mode but also the red dead online. I can see them wanting to have plenty of resources and personnel available for GTA Online and GTA6. But they could easily still support RDR2/RDO. You shouldn't need that many people to do so.
It's like RDR1 all over again. While they came out with Nightmare Undead, they left the Online MP to rot until people were forced to walk away from it. The Online wasn't as good as this one, but still. RDR1 was during a time when Online MP was much different. More or less the whole TeamA vs TeamB stuff and King Of The Hill type... but it had its moments.
To leave unfixed Story Mode bugs and walk away from RDO is just shameful in the least.
From what I see, GTA6 is not even going to be any good. But the early info isn't exactly accurate to what the final product would be anyways. But still I'd much rather have RDR2 fixed properly, RDO supported and features added then to buy anymore GTA crap.
I'll buy RDR3 if it ever comes out I guess. But knowing Rockstar it'll be like 2030. Doubt I'll be around that long.
It’s extremely disappointing seeing what’s happened with Red Dead Online.
I know the devs were under an “insane-crunch” to get the online mode up-and-running, and I’ve often wondered if this “crunch” compromised the foundation of the online mode. :(
Maybe building content for RDO was simply too difficult? Did the devs have to “cut-some-corners” at launch which made future updates extremely difficult?
I dunno.
All I know is RDO has been a huge disappointment, and just like with GTA Online, Rockstar has shown they’re completely incapable on minimizing cheating on the PC.
Here’s hoping some lessons have been learned and they’ll get things right in GTA 6’s online mode. :(
Or maybe we’ll be having this exact same conversation whenever GTA 6 gets released. :P
With RDO it's like they ran out of idea of what to do or add.
The only parts I actually enjoyed were the Blood Money additions, the content from Season Passes and all of the Halloween events. The Roles and stuff associated with them is also good, but also lacking.
The Trade and Moonshine runs are all the same few routes if you don't move your Camp or Moonshine Shack very often. And they want Gold to move the Moonshine Shack; like WTF were they thinking?
Honestly, most of the content in the game I really enjoyed! The world’s gorgeous, the missions are fun to play through, and the combat feels great!
Sadly, these 4 things ultimately “soured” the game for me.
1) Rampant Cheating.
My goodness, if you live along the North American West Coast and try playing RDO during the evenings GOOD LUCK! There’s an absurd amount of cheaters online. @_@
2) No Text Chat.
I know this one’s a bit contentious, some people really seem to dislike text chat, but honestly it’s the #1 way people communicate in these kinds of online worlds. RDO’s the only modern multiplayer game I’ve purchased without text chat, and it’s also the “deadest” when it comes communicating with other players. :/
3) Unfinished Main Story.
Rockstar never finished the Jessica LeClerk storyline! Your character never gets their revenge for being falsely accused. x_x
4) Abandoned Game.
This one’s kinda self-explanatory.
Who knows, maybe when GTA 6 gets released Rockstar will allow a “skeleton crew” to try to salvage Red Dead Online, or maybe we’ll have to wait until 2045 when Red Dead 3 gets released. :P
Poor RDO. So much wasted potential. :(
Critics loved it. So many critics rated it in the top 5, top 10, for several categories - "Best Graphics" "Best Selling" "Best Character Creation" "Best Story" whatever. With how many PC and Console games there are out there now, how many have come and gone, even top 100 is quite an accomplishment. RDR2 and RDO are already openly acknowledged as an "All Time Classic". Groundbreaking,
Their Active online player numbers - though maybe never the highest - was for a time quite impressive. Numbers that some game developers would envy.
Ah. Profit. Well maybe that was where they dropped the ball. Once you bought the game, you really never had to spend another dime. "Game Gold"? Sure, when I first started out I bought some "Game Gold" to buy into the Trader role. But once I figured out making money and gold in this game really is not that hard - especially with a posse - I never spent any of my own dollars for "Game Gold". How about offering some nice DLC? I'm not talking about performance upgrades where if you spend money you can get better equipment or faster horses or something where you can buy your way to being a "better" player than someone who is not so rich. I'm talking cosmetic goodies. I'd gladly part with a couple bucks to buy some clothing not offered in the catalog or a different color horse or a different gun or something, I don't know, but you get the idea.
And, as far as that goes, they shot themselves in the foot allowing modders to run rampant. I had a modder once drop a dozen treasure boxes at my feet full of gold, money, and goodies. I ran into a guy who said he found a "glitch" in the game. (Sure you did, modder) We ran trader runs back to back from his camp for about 2 hours. Sure, when I was new, I took the money. I'm not so pure as the driven snow, and I'm not proud of it, but there came a point where it just felt creepy and I wouldn't take those kinds of offers. It took the fun out of the game. I was earning enough by playing the game with my friends legit I felt better for it.
Why, Rockstar, Why? I was never interested in GTA, not even a little bit. And because of the way they handled Red Dead, even if they came out with a new game that might appeal to me, I'd be suspicious and skeptical. Will the game still be around in 2 or 3 years? What if I loved it and you dropped it like a hot potato once I got hooked on it?
I still play the game now, even though I never see most of the folks I made friends with online anymore. I will probably play till they shut off the servers. But once they announced they were going to let this game die a slow painful death, it's hard to get excited about playing anymore. Even the various discords I belong to are vacant for hours at a time.
All they needed were frequent discount sales for RDR2 and dropping standard edition down to $20 sooner. It made no sense regarding how long it took them to do that. If they had started doing that sooner they wouldn't have needed to waste their time and effort putting out RDO as a stand-alone product.
What they could have also done was have RDR2 and RDO be two separate products and allow RDR2 be single player story only; with the ability to play RDR2 off-line
So not only the game is KILLED, some people have no option other than wait (Stay still on a world that never moves) for rockstar to FIX this memory leak... ha, ha, ha.
Then R* drops megabomb hit of rdr3
