Error Code 17 (PLEASE HELP!!!)
Hello there... So I decided to redownload Red Dead Redemption 2 because I got the passion to play it again. Since reinstalling, I've gotten the Error Code 17. I've looked around thoroughly and found nothing. All I've seen were GTA 5 videos, so I thought they'd be the same (Not Really). I've added the game AND game files to the firewall so it's overlooked, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried uninstalling Rockstar and the Social Club. All have failed and I'm running out of options here. If anyone has had the same situation or have figured it out, PLEASE HELP!!! Much appreciated!!!!

Did you possibly see a text that said "This error occurs whenever Social Club fails to load while launching a Rockstar Games title."?

Review the launcher logs and see what the problem is.

And you are launching correctly?

> Steam > Run As Admin
> Rockstar Launcher > Run As Admin
> Login, tick Remember Me + Auto
> Launch RDR2 from Rockstar Laucnher

Wait a bit until the black screen w/ loading bar comes up.

Ok lets go review the logs.

Documents > Rockstar Games > Launcher

Documents > Rockstar Games > SocialClub

I looked up the Error Code 17 on different discussions and found something you commented.

Uninstall SoclaLClub and Rockstar Launcher. Then go to here...

Documents > Rockstar Games
and also
%localappdata% > Rockstar Games

Within those two folders, delete these folders inside...
Launcher and SocialClub

Then get latest Rockstar Launcher from > https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher

Once it is installed, run it. Then enter login info and tick the boxes for Remember Me + Auto. Then go to its Settings and disable "Start with Windows" and enable "Hibernate when Game is running"

Exit out of it. Restart Windows.

Launch Steam Client via Run As Admin.

Launch Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin.

Go to Steam Library > RDR2 > Properties > Local Files > Verify > wait til finished.

When this is done, click Play for RDR2 in the Rockstar Launcher, not Steam.

Give it about 60-90 secs to launch the game; RDR2.EXE

I just did all of that so I don't have any logged data, but none of that worked so I'm wondering if I should just contact Rockstar themselves even though they suck ass at helping people

Yes, deleting the left-overs is a must, cause that is usually where the problem is if you actually have an on-going issue with either the Rockstar Launcher or SocialClub Runtime. That is what many are not doing, so uninstalling/reinstalling the launcher doesn't fix any problem for them.

You said you did the above. Then you will have logs; as they will be produced from the Rockstar Launcher, not just when running the launcher but when attempting to launch a game from it.

If you still having issues then it's something on your system or how its configured that's preventing the Launcher or Game from running properly.

It's just weird though because when I first installed it a long time ago, everything ran smooth and I had 0 issues with anything. Just click and play. Now when I reinstall it, I have issues? Like I'm so confused... I know it's not my system, it's just Rockstars launcher and Social Club that's the issue. So I'll do some more digging around and find maybe something that can help. I do appreciate you trying to help me though!

Ok so when you launch the game, regardless of what happens; like say it doesn't launch, ends in error, etc. Review the logs that get created here and see what all they say towards the end of the logs...

Documents > Rockstar Games > Launcher

Documents > Rockstar Games > SocialClub

No, I load up Red Dead. I get the black screen loading, then once it loads it plays the shotgun blast part and the 2 information things. Once those pass I get "Error Code 17 Social Club Error" or something along those lines
