Red Dead Redemption 2 is not abandoned
I have a theory, that RDR2 is only temporarily "abandoned" until GTA6 is complete. From leaks, insiders, and Rockstar themselves, it seems clear to me now what has happened.

Let me paint the picture.
You are Rockstar, It's 2020. You are well into development on your newest and largest game and things are going great, the game is expected to be finished and released fall 2023, three years from now. Uh oh, it's march! The virus comes in, everything shuts down and your employees are now forced to work from home. Progress drastically decreases as communication and development now take far longer. What used to take minutes, or hours can now days or even weeks. Fast forward to spring 2021 and the virus is done with. People now return to work as normal, however a large portion of your staff either don't want to or outright refuse to come into work for a variety of reasons. Now part of your team works from home while a portion works in office while you are almost 2 years behind where you planned to be.

During this process of returning to normal, you inform the executives that you need more time, at least 2 or possibly even 3 years longer than the scheduled release date. They understand but also aren't willing to lose out on money. So they only delay by 1 year pushing release back to fall 2024. You are now paranoid the game won't be ready on time and the crunch has to begin. You are short on manpower and need to push things into overdrive. So you look at your other studios, which are currently still maintaining two of your largest titles, GTAV and RDR2. One of these brings in 88% of your revenue at around 1 billion a year while the other rakes in 100 million. You decide that because RDR2 is bringing in only 10% of what GTAV is, that you will pull the team to help complete GTA6.

Obviously this is just a theory, but I think based on everything we know so far, this is what has happened. I suspect that shortly prior to, or after the release of GTA6, we will begin to see updates return to RDR2

I think Rockstar is quietly waiting to drop a singleplayer rdr2 dlc out of nowhere (perhaps an alternate story line for Arthur), as well as a remaster of rdr1 and rdr3

Just so they make a bazillion dollars

I hope they are secretly dropping a fix that will actually let me play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

If anything, they will probably hype RDR3 by pumping some content into RDR2.
I mean, if I want to release a new RDR game, I would do that...

I'm with Devillish Dave. RDR2 is dead and once GTA6 has dropped they will begin work on RDR3 which will probably drop 2-4 years after GTA6 release. So somewhere around 2030 if we are lucky..

Nonsense. Sure they dont have the same amount of options as modern setting. But they gave up before they even tried. And they didnt even follow the success of GTAV. Having 2 currencies and a "battlepass" was a brain dead idea trying insert fornite ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

They could have added properties to buy, Heists, proper train robberies, land stakes, more distinctive horse performances, camp upgrades, treaties, Co-op sessions, and on and on.

I dont need a flying horse with missiles, but i sure as hell need more to do than grind sales and go on easter egg hunts.
