Immersive Open World: AC Valhalla vs RDR2
So, I'm trying to decide on a big open-world game to get on the Spring Sale, to tide me over until Zelda BOTW2 (my Zelda-loving sister will get first dibs on the cartridge). It's between RDR2 and AC Valhalla. From what I've heard, RDR2 is in principle a better game, with a more coherent story and more lively and immersive world, compared to the icon-fest that is Ubisoft games. However, its not clear-cut for me, because Valhalla has several things that fit my preferences. Vikings is a much more interesting theme to me than cowboys (only samurai are better); it has heavier RPG mechanics and skill progression; and has GeForce Now support (so I can remote-desktop a 4080 and max everything out).

Or should I just get both (I'm not short of cash), or go back to Witcher 3 since I didn't play past White Orchard the first time, it has Gwent, and there's a new update.

RDR2's open world is vastly superior to Valhalla. Valhalla is a decent game, no doubt about it. However RDR2 is on another level.

One is a far superior open world game to the other, that game is Red Dead 2
Now, one last question; do you think either game will ever go below a 67% discount in the near future? They've posted at that sale price for about a year now.
The single player RDR2 is fantastic. I definitely recommend it. I am not yet sure what I think of the multiple player online portion as it has been very buggy or some kind of issue.

you compare 2 incomparable games, it's like wanting to compare a cat to a dog!

rdr2 feels more like you are living in the actual world and valhalla is more about going on a rampage as a viking :) both games are good, if you want a longer slow burner go rdr2, if you want more combat focused go valhalla

The man literally brought AC Valhalla to the table lmao. 💀 You should totally play RDR2 instead if you want a experience you will never forget, but AC Valhalla is a forgettable game. Nothing in that ♥♥♥♥ is made out of love, it's just a forgettable game that shouldn't even exist in first place

I haven't played Valhalla as yet, Though I do have it on wish-list so when its on sale I can think about it again lol. RDR2 is an amazing game, this is my first play through with it and I cant recommend it enough. If westerns aren't your thing though you may not enjoy it as much. I've always loved westerns so it wasn't hard for me to get in to. The voice acting is great, story is amazballs, the open world feels lived in and plenty to do.

Valhalla is a bloatfest trash game that aims to consume your time. RDR2 is superior on every aspect.

RDR2 is worth every penny even at full price

Played both - here's just my opinion: Valhalla seems big at first, but it is rather empty. The protagonists you meet are painfully identical - the writing seems lazy. Also congratulations, Ubisoft, on creating a dull and boring viking (I wasn't aware this was possible - I often got the feeling they were out to create someone "cool" and "badass", but just ended up making a bland and self-righteous thug). Arthur Morgen just has so much more personality, as does the whole world of RDR2. Again, just my opinion, but never looked back to Valhalla (Odysee seemed much more appealking to me) and am on my third playthrough on RDR2.

I'd get RDR2. Valhalla was very fun for me at first, but after about 20 hours I completely lost interest. It's far too repetitive and, despite a clear attempt to improve on the Ubisoft formula, it is still the Ubisoft formula.
RDR2, on the other hand, left me wanting more even after 100+ hours. The story, writing, and character performances are leagues ahead of Valhalla, and the gameplay is just more engaging in my opinion.

After playing both i can certainly assure you that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a VASTLY superior game, not just in terms of the open world either. The graphics, character and facial animations, plot, and environmental story telling is all just so much better and results in a very detailed and immersive experience that Valhalla is just unable to offer. Plus, i would even argue that Red Dead's rpg mechanics are deeper; there may not be straight up skill points to spend, but there are plenty of stats and buffs to keep track of while progressing your character, as well as managing your crew and camp's well-being and your reputation. it's a fun balancing act and feels immersive while also not feeling like a chore. Unfortunately, Valhalla is full of chores, and the only way to interact with any of the mindless npc's is only by killing them. it's better in RdR2 when you make small talk with every npc, and you never know where their side missions will lead you. whether it's going hunting, being held up for robbery, or being invited to see a stage performance, the citizens in RDR2 always offer something new and interesting. trust me, Red Dead is def a better choice. not to mention Valhalla really just DOES NOT dedicate itself the viking theme as well as it should
