can i disarm people without killing them with my gun

it feels like a very classic western move to shoot a revolver out of someone's hand but every time i try it just phases right through and does nothing at all.

same goes for repeaters.

For the challenge for example I threatened a random with a gun in Valentine, waited for the person to react and pull the gun and immediately shot the arm. It works pretty good. You can hit Repeater pretty good too. I couldn't hit revolver very good but arms and hands. They drop and are not further hurt.

Funny Story the 9th Sharpshooter challange took me most of the game to complete. Shoot off 3 hats in the same deadeye session. You would not believe how many enemies flinched causing a headshot or didn't wear their hats that day or moved behind a column. Drove me crazy.

That’s how I did it early (I think it was in ch2 or maybe 3):

Go to Valentine.
Equip a shotgun and your mask. Mask is important for us up-to-no-good boahs.
Climb the ladder inside the barn and get to the loft with the opening overlooking the pens. There are always a few guys wearing hats near the pens. Make sure you have three of them close to each other.
Get into your dead eye, mark three heads and shoot (you cannot mark the hats, only the heads so aim as high as possible). Since the men are comparatively far away you will not kill them with your shotgun, just shoot their hats off. They men will not be happy, though.
Immediately leave your perch, mount your horse (hopefully, you remember to park it nearby) and ride away. The usual.
I did it without even having a bounty afterwards. Easy and fun.

if i want to capture someone alive i use the lasso and when the person falls down i hogtie him, i used this to capture alive that fellar from the lemoyne raider bounty i picked up in saint denis

i mean, I don't exactly need to tie everyone up, I'd prefer to just disarm them and let them go about their lives.

I mostly only want to disarm for roleplay purposes and walking around hogtying a bunch of strangers and leaving them in the desert starts to feel psychopath-ey after a while.

well...i used to tie up lone campers and ransack their place and sometimes i hogtied loners and left them in the woods, i even used predator bait on some of them to see what happens, i guess i'm a psychopath xD lol...disarming people with a gun sounds fun though

stealing a man's money is one thing but getting him eaten alive is another. That is indeed psychopath behavior.

I mean, it's a game; I don't think anyone would want to do that IRL but i personally have an extremely hard time doing things in games like that cause it just feels gross. That's pretty much the reason i want to disarm people; I enjoy playing the game as a thief who doesn't hurt anyone.

Seems like everybody in cowboy america was robbing each other all the time. seems only natural.
