Use it as you like, or not . . . but as Motha said, they're not that hard to find just using eagle eye/diminishing circles, either way your call.
Sometimes there is still the on-going random bug where Treasure Maps and Metal Detector is not working. When that happens I have to exit the game and go delete the player file. Then launch the game and go back into RDO and it works again, for a while at least. Usually works for a few weeks before it ultimately breaks once again for whatever reason. Rinse and repeat.
