lock on keeps turning off?
I have been trying to target NPCs like horses to lasso them, but after like 3 seconds (right click on Pc) 'lock on' turns off, it's really frustrating. I have no idea if that's a feature or a bug.. but it's driving me nuts because it makes trying to lasso a horse incredibly challenging, or even just target a NPC to hit/shoot whatever.

Am I not understanding something? How do I fix this?

I'm not look for easy mode I'm looking to actually catch a wild horse mainly, but I can't even guarantee my lasso will stay on the whole duration while I lasso it .. even witht he key depressed (right click on mouse) it keeps randomly releasing .. I've had it frankly and would love any help.

90% of the yourube videos talk about console controls, and the ones that discuss pcs are largely useless. Is there a website I can look up instrauctions on a rdr2 control schematta possibly even?

there's lock on for pc?
Yes, it's right click (hold), which activates the targeting. It both aims and locks (on). It doesn't 'keep' a target it simply opens the target cursor straight ahead and raget cursor menu .. and when it disappears after about 3 seconds I can no longer target a horse to 'calm them' unless I re-depress the right mouse button .. oevr and over adnauseum.

That's only when you use a controller, LOL.
It doesn't exist when using KB+Mouse.
On does that for horses from what I've seen.

You don't need that crap, just play the game. It shouldn't have no lock BS anyways, it's pointless. This isn't some kiddie arcade game.
Maybe I'm not being very clear, I'm not looking for help 'shooting' or something to make sure I am always on 'right target'. I'm trying to keep the 'targeting' from turning off. When you pull your weapon, or fist targeting (which is done by holding right click) it 'turns off after 1-4 seconds even thgouh I never lift my finger from holding down right click on the mouse.

Basically if I am targeting why does the UI stop targeting, how do i fix that?

It doesn't turn off. If you right click and hold this down, it will focus on an npc or horse. If this is going away its because they are out of range. The range is only for as long as you could lasso someone, that's it.
Well then my game or mouse is glitched, it won't stabilize. I have tried countless times and it always turn off.

Almost poinless anyways, I found out you can't catch and bond with wild horses in the online version anyways .. nearly pointless to try and catch them, pisses me off that I've spent 2 days trying to figure out how to catch and stable a wild horse when they disallow it and have it gated through a money and level system .. really pisses me off actually.

There is no need for it to lock on. It doesn't make or break the game play. Lasso people or horses while you yourself are on horseback, it's very easy.

RDO has different rules. Only time you can lock on like that in RDO is to lasso a game hunt to get a clean kill. Yes all horse in RDO must be purchased. No way to get any other way. Once you do buy a horse don't forget to buy insurance for it so it gets replaced if killed.

If you don't know the game well learn by playing story not by playing the online mode.

Online is way different. Even your movement in rdo is fast like a traditional fps game, not like story mode.

Also I wish they add some feature from online to story. For example you can get a perk so while on horse back your horse can pick the herbs with mouth and hand them to you. Very cool idea.

Yea, well the reason i switched to onlin mode was because the story kept rushing me through and I was struggling with the controls for other things .. like just basic stopping and starting the horses.
I already know now how to lasso a horse (that's janky and very difficult to do as well), but thank you for tips. It's just unintuitive control design, I understand creating your own control design is better for a 'style' but it makes zero sense to add in a couple dozen press and hold this to press that for basic controls (especially when holding self releases).
But the complexity while adding nothing to overall game enjoyment is a minor issue, invisible design choices that are unintuitive like not being able to capture and stable a horse is just weak mind boggling design decision. Either make them accessible and consistent with the rest of the game and other game platforms, or don't iterate. Or if you are going to change it state it, let the consumer know it doesn't work that way, it's really that simple. Wasting 2-4 days trying to figure out how to circumvent a bad initial control set up and invisible design flaws just plain old pisses me off.
Don't get me wrong I like the game overall, but this 'let's put a bird on it' game design is irritating as a video game consumer of many years.

Do you have poor FPS? Maybe that's more of the issue, as this can make lassoing a horse or buck a real chore.
not at all, fairly new comp.

Ok so are you having issues with Story mode or Online mode.

They play different so you really need to be specific.

It would be helpful if you made a couple videos. Very easy to do that and share them
