Best way to shoot using iron sights in this game using keyboard and mouse?
I did a mission where I fired my rifle and killed the gang who was going to do the train heist. I had to just aim with my gun and use the little tiny dot as indicator. Id much rather use the iron sights but couldnt figure out how.
I saw on a guide that you have to shoot in first person in order to use iron sights? Is it that way too for a scope?

I guess I have to press the open bracket to use iron sights and then close bracket to close it? Since im in camp now I am not able to experiment with this because i cant even draw a gun. Is there a way I can bind the iron sights to the mouse wheel? Using those bracket buttons is a horrible way to do this.
So whats the way everyone here uses iron sights and a scope on their rifles?

Would it be better for me to just use my Xbox controller? Is it easier to use iron sights on that? I think id prefer KB and mouse on this game, but if iron sights is a lot easier then I may go for the xbox.

Its very unfortunate that this mechanic is in the game. We should be able to just use right mouse to aim with sights, like almost every other game.

However you must be on-foot + 1st person.
It will not allow iron sights while on horse-back.

When in 3rd person cam, you do not have to cycle through V key to get to 1st person, you can in any of the cameras, just press and hold aim, then press V once, this will quickly jump from 3rd person to 1st person, regardless of which 3rd person camera you were set to.

Also with the .22 Rifle and the Springfield rifle; you can attach a scope to them, then when using these rifles, when you aim, use the scroll wheel to switch between iron sights vs scope. However with these it just wont do a "look down the sights" when the scope is actually attached and you switch between those two looking modes.

As you do not want to just press Fire without aiming; as that is inaccurate "hip shooting"

Wow, thanks. That helps a lot. Im in the new camp called Horseshoe something or other. I guess its chapter 2. I shaved and then saved the game for tonight.

Before we robbed the train I tried using iron sights on my rifle but it wouldnt work, so now I know because I was on horseback. I dont think I tried during the gun fight because I had given up on that.

So scroll wheel up I think puts it into iron sights while aiming, and scroll wheel back takes it out?

Im not sure what kind of rifle I have, ill have to look but its the first one given to me in the intro. Im not quite understanding how I aim using a scope and try to use iron sights. I think I read that if you want to aim down the iron sights, you have to take the scope off first, otherwise youll just be shooting at the hip as you say?

So far I guess Ive just been shooting from the hip since Ive never used iron sights. Ive just been using the tiny cursor that turns red when youre over a target. This is the first game ive ever played that had such difficult controls. I expect once im used to it that it wont be so bad.

Oh, and to use the iron sights I have to be in first person, right?

So what exactly does the zoom in with aiming do? I see its bound to the open and close bracket buttons. Is there an easier way to do that? It seems really hard to use since the buttons are so far to the right.

Too bad theres not a little target practice spot in the camp set up for us to use.

Iron sights is OK in RDR2 for playing around; but overall its very helpful to just use Dead-Eye, mark their head and fire. Now early on you might get away with taking a mission slow (killing a guy one at a time with iron sights or whatever) but on some missions if you dont tag em and bag em as quick as possible, it's just not going to go very well for you.

Ok, so iron sights really isnt practical in this game. How about using the scope for along shots? Im guessing thats a good thing, or still just use the dead-eye? I have to admit that just using dead-eye and the little curosor, the first two gun battles were pretty easy. I guess iron sights is more just to play around with?
Most games iron sights is what I use just about all of the time. This really isnt a first person shooter after all.

Scope is fine, you will need that from time to time for sure. Especially for hunting.

Ok, thanks for the tips.

Just installed Windows 11 last night. I sure hope it runs ok on this game and others. My Windows 10 was having some bugs that I think I picked up with a recent update. Hopefully those are gone now.

Why would you do an in-place upgrade to Win11 :steamfacepalm:

If Win10 had a problem, roll it back to before the updates, if those were a problem, very simple.

Yeah, I thought about that but decided to just bite the bullet now and try the upgrade, since I will have to eventually. Its been out awhile so hopefully bugs are worked out. Its been running good so far.
If problems continue, then I will do a clean install of WIndows 11.

At the very least I would suggest wiping out your Drivers and perform a clean install of those and at the same time, make sure those are also up to date. By getting each driver from the chipset maker and run their package one at time until all the drivers are installed.

But yes try it for about a week or so as-is and see how stable it all is. If it's not tossing up blue screens or other odd errors and apps + games are all working fine then you should be good to go.

I was having problems with web browsers locking up on me. Both Edge and Chrome would randomly lock up and not respond. Not sure what the heck was wrong.

After installing windows 11 I found it was still present yesterday. I did a scandisc on it through the windows utility and it found a problem, fixed that. So far it hasnt acted up yet again. Im going to look at drivers now, see about updating if possible. Ive been using the Intel Driver and Support Assistant to update intel drivers. Im wondering if something went wrong there.

Well after a WinOS Feature Build Update (which is basically Windows Updates providing you with a whole new version of your current WinOS) or going from say Win7/8 to 10; or from 10 to 11 through an in-place upgrade process; it is always a good idea to go and wipe out Drivers for say; Chipset, GPU(s), Audio, LAN, WIFI; and then reboot and go download and install the latest available driver for each of those. Even if it appears that everything is working fine after a Win10 to 11 upgrade; still a good rule of thumb to go through that process to ensure overall system stability and such.
