The bounty system is even worse, it's like all the attention was spent on visuals and story, and everything else was a distant second. Robbing trains with telepathic cops is one of the dumbest things I've seen in gaming.
Use this mod it fixes all that:

Can I say this to people who might be getting frustrated with the honor system.
Don't worry about any negative honor, this all works itself out if you seek and do the random events that popup that provide positive honor.

Greeting people and throwing back caught fish are just ways to exploit the system. You do not have to do that all day though in order to get the honor back up.

I took the honor down to the bottom of the barrel between Chapter 3 and 4; by the end of the game Arthur had 100% positive honor.

To be honest, the honor system really doesn't serve a purpose in Story Mode. As you could have 100% honor the entire game, it will not change how many events unfold or how certain people in certain areas treat you. However it does effect all of the prices for everything, everywhere; Provisions, Guns, Ammo, Horses; etc.

When you got $17,000+ who cares about the prices.

I think the honor system outside what you already said is good for those who
play like i do where your just free roaming not really playing the story and just
want to sit on the "good" side of the fence so to speak to have
good interactions with the peds in the world.
I was just pointing that out, again not that it really matters.

Pretty much anything you need in the game is free anyways.

Even all the guns, you find them as you go.

Horses you find in the wild, break them, level them, sell them, etc.

Food you find everywhere, plants, random camps, buildings, kill game and cook it; etc.

The only thing that costs money really is different clothing.

i drew the impression that this was the crux of the complaint, was that it doesn't make sense and it's too easy to exploit.
ealrier comments said "oh, you take a fish and lose it, you commit mass murder and lose it , but gain it all back by walking through town saying Howdy Ya'll?

a good idea, but i simply ignore the honor system.

the honor system is rather worthless for how i play the game, ...

...except for the price savings which quickly becomes irrelevant (as mentioned)

It makes more sense if you don't think about it like a set of rules established by the law or society and instead accept that when you gain or lose honor it's more of a reflection of how Arthur felt about that action and whether he thought it honorable or not.
Basically a guilt meter. :stein:

Gotta love having to mod a game to remove stupid mechanics
Wouldnt mind reducing the amount of time I have to hold down buttons, or wait on animations

Man I forgot about that video lmao. Legendary
Not about the honor system but the comment about telepathic cops made me remember.

I saw a campfire up in the mountains somewhere. There was no one around so I went to snoop. As soon as I opened a basket or something, the witness thing popped up. I didn't even take anything, I just got on my horse and left. Dude starts chasing me and shooting at me. I tried to get away from him without shooting him. I got near a town (Valentine, I think) and I hid behind a building where it was impossible for dude to see where I went. Dude just kept coming and ran straight towards me hiding behind the building. Like, wtf? I ended up shooting him just to get him to leave me alone. Chased me on foot while I was on horse a long, long way and always knew where I was. Do these NPCs not lose stamina when running halfway across the country?
lol, the morality system in most games is questionable. XD

The system in RDR2 is. . . Fine.

It gets the job done. :)

I mean yeah robbing people, be it in missions or somewhere else should make you lose honor, also looting corpses is also pretty bad. I agree you shouldnt lose reputation if you shoot bounty hunters since ur just defending yourself.
Ur literally a bad guy in the story so I dont see why you shouldnt lose honor in missions aswell, when you do BAD things.

If the job is confusing you so much you're not really sure if your next action will be good or bad, yeah I'd say it's getting the job done... It is quite funny though - most of the time.

- Game tells me to go recover a debt.
- Game tells me to beat the guy up - he hits me first.
- I beat him up, clearly in self-defence and I recover the debt that he admitted he owed.
- Someone sees me do that and now they're a witness to a crime.
- My guy says in game that it's not like that, it was a debt, not a crime.
- Guy is going to rat me out anyway so I chase him.
- Rope him, hog tie him, he says fine he's not going to tell anyone.
- That's fine by me, he can sit there until someone comes to untie him.
- Random guy in the background screams I'm kidnapping someone.

This continued on for a bit until everyone just had to die... Didn't really make much sense how it all played out but it did make me chuckle.

Pretty sure most hunters say its good to let nature takes it course lmfao. Still don't lose how u don't lose honor by stabbing something in the gut like a maniac
Err no you're wrong on that first count, but seriously the amount you lose is insane. I don't understand the second bit.
