Blurry textures
Hi there.

Have been playing the game for over 50 hours. The sceneries look magnificient and all but when I take an up-close look on terrain, walls, rocks, textures in general, they look like I am playing on ultra low settings although all my settings are on high. Is this how the game is supposed to look like or am I missing something?

I will provide a screenshot below.

Thank you kindly in advance.

wow, isn't that weird? which setting should I use for texture quality then?

I really get frustrated when watching rdr2 content on youtube because the game has fascinating graphics but my game looks worse than any other game out there on my computer.

thanks for the response!

Are you using ANY of the following; and if so, which and also what setting for it, if used.

-FXAA
-TAA
-MSAA
-SMAA (the game does not call it this but when you use Image Upscaling % in GTAV or RDR2; this is essentially SMAA)
-FSR2
-DLSS

^ These settings can not just impact FPS but also the overall image quality.

Textures is simply that, set this to Ultra in Graphics settings. The rest of the settings have to do with other things; Lighting, Shadows, Reflections, Water, Volumetrics (Fog), Trees, Fur, Tesselation.

Also what screen resolution is the game set to?

The only option I use of the above is DLSS. It is on balanced with about 25% sharpening. I am not an expert but it seems that all the other options are locked because the dlss is on.

I am VERY happy about how the shadows, fog, water and reflections look, the only thing that makes my game look like mud is solid surfaces. they all seem like it is CS 1.6 :D

My resolution is 1920x1080.

I hope you forgive my ignorance and errors in the language if there are any, not a native speaker.

Thank you for further information sir!

I see no purpose to bother with DLSS unless you seriously need an FPS boost.
DLSS and FSR WILL make the entire game look terrible.
Try disable those. If do use them, put only on Quality.
Once disabled and apply, set Textures to Ultra.
Apply and try the game like that.

Turn DLSS to Auto and turn the sharpening up
I have a similar problem, the only textures that look bad though are walls and signs and the ground, everything else is fine but I can't raise anything because my specs aren't great and if I do, the game will run like crap so I just live with it. I will say it's annoying though when sometimes the game decides to make textures that aren't normally blurry blurred out of no where; usually it fixes itself after a while but not always.

Took a look at the graphics comparison videos on the internet. Apparently, the only setting that looks decent for texture quality is the ULTRA.

Generally, texture quality increases gradually from very low to ultra in other games but in this game any other option than ultra, ''high'' for instance looks almost as bad as low. If got enough specs, the solution is to set it to ultra, sacrificing some frames per second.

When it comes to blurriness in overall image or sceneries, it seems to be linked with other dependencies such as AA variants and upscaling stuff like DLSS as mentioned above.

Downloaded a 3rd party program called ''ReShade'', which has TONS of tweaks that you can go through to make your game look however your heart desires. I suggest you guys check how it works and affects the game on youtube.

Thank you a lot for all the responses guys. Appreciate it.

Again though even with DLSS you want to set the regular game graphics settings up a bit. Such as Textures on Ultra. But yes from the looks of the system.xml file that holds these settings, the DLSS Sharpening is on 0.55. Try set to around 0.65-0.75

What also helps is using a few mods.
Such as the DLSS changer/injector which easily allows the use of other versions of DLSS DLL with ease. As newer versions of DLSS helps with both quality and performance
