Red Dead Redemption 2 keeps running after being closed
Anyone else has that problem that rdr 2 appears in the task manager after being closed through the game menu? Steam also shows that you are still playing it.

How long did you wait. Some games have an internal method of memory regain through clearing of cache; and that takes a little time to then actually have it automatically close everything out.

It was running like that for about 4 hours when I noticed.

Try doing it this way from now on.

No game clients in OS Startup.

Once OS Desktop loads up...

Launch Steam Client via Run As Admin.

Launch Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin.

Check to ensure no Downloads have started in Steam Client.

Change Settings in Rockstar Launcher > Hibernate while game is running > Yellow box = Enabled

Launch RDR2 from Rockstar launcher.

Once this is done, once you see "Store" get hidden in the Rockstar Launcher; X out the Launcher and Steam windows.

If this still continues; Force Close (End Process Tree) on anything Rockstar related after you exit a Rockstar Game and that should do the trick for sure.

Thank you, but I was looking for some permanent solution, so I dont have to manually close it in the task manager every time

Again though; what I stated might fix your issue; you'll have to try and see.
I only stated how to manually close it out properly just in case.
For most users this never happens.

I tried the first way and it unfortunately didnt work. I found a reddit post on the same problem but in GTA5, I tried some methods from there but none of them worked.

It's possible you have something running that runs along side the game that might be hanging it up upon exit. I had Xbox GameBar do this for RDR2 and a couple other games. Never had such issues with GTAV though. Or maybe an old version of MSI AB and/or RTSS (RivaTuner) perhaps.

It could even be an issue with Steam Client itself. Try doing a Steam Client Repair

If I may, I had this too - I had to manually exit the R* Launcher (in the system tray of windows in the lower right). Once I did that, and wait a few seconds, the Steam button went back to PLAY and everything was fine.

That may not be your exact problem, but it helped me when I had that. GL with it
