The last major update for the Online Mode was in August 2021. . .
. . .
TWO YEARS AGO!
The single player campaign is great though! :D
There are a lot and i mean a lot of people with mod menus just like gta 5 (hackers)
Single player campaign even tho i own it i have never played (maybe one day) but the online open world version with friends only is were it shines for me, the peaceful sounds of nature weather hunting and tracking skinning running a business making money and gold just appeal to me sitting around a campfire with friends on discord is just awesome.
If you decide to give the online a go i recommend you create a online private lobby with your friends ONLY (stay away from public lobbies) that way no hackers can screw you around steal your account and such.
How is it possible? just follow this video and in less than a minute you will enjoy a hacker free experience so you can grind and level up make money and just enjoy the old west.
Happy Trails...

So you might be right, maybe we should be thankful Rockstar abandoned RDO. :(
Still though, an ending to the Jessica LeClerk storyline would have been nice. The game just feels half-finished in its current state. @_@

Regarding RDO not being as profitable as GTA Online, in a lot of ways RDO just feels like an inferior product.
- No officially supported private sessions.
- No PvP match customization.
- Can’t select difficulty in most co-op missions.
- No multiplayer lobby support for the survival wave mode (Call to Arms).
- No way to skip narrative cutscenes.
- No Heists.
- No Player Housing.
- No text chat.
- Punishingly difficult early-game grind.
I love the world and atmosphere in RDO, but as a game, GTA Online just feels like a better put-together product. o_o
ps if you read what their announcement said they never said it will come to an end it clearly stated they are focusing on gta6 and wont be doing any more content updates
do a little research...
https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/7/23198569/red-dead-online-updates-rockstar-gta
I'd be curious to know how many of that 30K are in the singleplayer vs multiplayer. o_o
Regardless, I think they're saying the game is abandoned by Rockstar (not abandoned by the players), referring to the fact that Rockstar hasn't released a major update in roughly 2 years.
Why bother with the Verge article? Just read the statement released by Rockstar themselves: (RDO update under the cowgirl image.)
https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/9k74k52737912k/grand-theft-auto-and-red-dead-online-community-update
I think the community is upset because while this message explains team members are being pulled from Red Dead Online to focus on the next GTA Project, there's no clarification on whether development on RDO will ever resume.
So there doesn't need to be any clarification content updates are on hold for how long who knows but all you are doing is posting what your dream game should be.
just because all those things are in GTA5 (and i'm not saying those are bad things) doesn't mean they should be in RDR2 the state of the game is exactly were the the road map ahead took the game and ended up.
When GTA6 is released maybe they may return to RDR2 and if not so what the game runs great for me and others and gives me and my friends countless hours of fun and i'm sure i'm not alone and the constant 30k+ players proves that.

I said "all but abandoned", not abandoned. It's basically on life support, in maintenance mode. You can tell others to "do a little research", but apparently you need to do a little reading comprehension.
If you pull the numbers off steam charts:
Dec 2019 to Jul 2023, RD2 averaged 20,051 players *
* (EDIT: ACTUALLY I PULLED THE WRONG NUMBERS. 20,051 IS THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS FOR BASE GAME, NOT RED DEAD ONLINE.
RED DEAD ONLINE AVERAGES ABOUT 2,000 players.
But that doesn't include console players.
Apr 2015 to Jul 2023, GTA averaged 73,241 players
Rockstar has only been able to do what it is doing with GTA through ever increasing costs of content, shifting assets around and putting them behind new paywalls, all manner of gimmicks to raise the cash to fund the staffing and push that content out.
AND, if you are up to speed with what's been going on, last year Rockstar had to change it's culture, because they were working their employees to death, with reports of abusive management, 100 hour work weeks, and overwhelming cruches on timelines.
So, the culture change to more reasonable work expectations and hours, etc. means they are not able to maintain what they were doing. The only way to maintain what they were doing was to either hire more people, which is more $$$$$, and where was that money going to come from? More Shark Cards? The "inflation" in GTA is well documented for a very long time.
They could not/cannot do with RD2 what they did with GTA, it is not economically feasible. Combine new projects in the works, a budget, and getting less work out of the employees with the culture change, the only options are to hire more people, or move people to the work they consider most important. Something has to give. And with a player base of roughly 1/4 of GTA, the obvious choice for the way forward was to place RD2 in maintenance mode.
They can't hire more people, because the numbers no longer work. Even if they TRIED to do with RD2 what people wanted / expected, it would probably cost them DOUBLE, because with the more realistic work hours they would either have to hire more people, or vastly increase the cost of new content in RD2.
It's a business, the bottom line is profit, something had to give, and that something is RD2 online. I don't doubt that there may have even been discussions of stopping any type of new content for RD2 altogether and just keeping servers running, but less than 5 years after release, and with the griping they were already getting, they understood that would be a publicity nightmare.
It's a business, and the bottom line is $$$$.
Generally, games that go into what is basically maintenance mode with little to no new content sometimes die a quick death, sometimes a slow death. I think this will be a slow death.
But the Doctor has rendered his final verdict, there will be no more treatments, it's time to make the patient as comfortable as possible until the end. I hope the servers stay up for as long as possible, but there will be more and more tumbleweeds now that they have finally admitted they are all but done with it.
Realistically, I don't expect any more updates for RDO; I just hope Rockstar tries to address the cheating problem in their future PC titles. Here's hoping GTA 6 can "exceed" player expectations like Rockstar claims they're striving for. At this point, just minimizing cheating would exceed my expectations. @_@
