I hate Rockstar for these moronic challenges/achievements. The animal respawn mechanic is so tedious, there is not enough grizzly bears to go around as well, and 18? Why 18? What is the point? This is my last Story mode achievement and I just keep saving, loading, making camps, running around, sleeping for godless amount of hours, sometimes it spawns them, sometimes it doesn't. Truly pathetic. When they were making these types of achievements, it's like it was someone who doesn't even work on the game, he just wrote "do this and that X amount of times because fk you". Makes my brain explode. I am wasting HOURS and HOURS trying to respawn the stupid Grizzlies and it is super slow, boring, tedious and unfulfilling. Tried all the locations, tried the 72 hour rule, saving loading... sometimes it spawns them, sometimes it doesn't. More often it does not. I hate you for this Rockstar. Disgrace.

I know guys, but come on, be real. This is clearly a fault of the development team (or lack thereof). If the game leads you into a certain direction (get mauled by 18 bears and survive), the game should also provide you a fun or meaningful means to accomplish this (make reliable spawns for certain animals, script more encounters, increase the rate or do something in-game to increase the rate of said animal, etc.) Am I wrong here?

Just run around the bear spawns on the map and you'll find enough after a while

There is a place in the north-west with a burned down homestead and a pile of logs next to it. You probably know the place. There are three bears regularly spawn around that spot. Just camp nearby, sleep for about 24 hrs, kill each one (make sure they attack from behind), rinse and repeat.

Edit: sometimes only 2 bears spawn but usually 3.
