Low 4080 Frames?
EDIT: Deleting the files at C:\Users\username\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club\Renderer\GPUCache indeed fixed the issue after having replaced my graphics card. Big thanks to Duff

I know these sorts of discussions are annoying as sin but I struggled to find similar ones from a recent timeframe.

Cutting to the chase, I'm on a 2560x1440 monitor on Ultra 1440p settings with an NVIDIA 4080, i7 12700kf, 32gb DDR4, with an 850w PSU. I have the ultra performance power setting enabled along with the app priority set to real-time. I am on the latest GeForce drivers and this is running on an SSD.

Despite seeing online that most setups like these should be getting around 100fps at these settings, the benchmark only has me at 70 at the absolute best, usually sitting more around the mid-to-low 50s. I'm assuming this isn't normal?

I just ran a 3DMark test and got almost the exact average score for my build, so my pc seems to be working fine. My temps are fine and my CPU and RAM readings are averaging 17% and 50% respectively. However, GPU-Z is telling me I'm running at full GPU utilization, which is certainly telling.

Am I just going crazy and this is totally normal or am I missing something? Thank you.

Full GPU utilisation is fine as the CPU is more than enough to prevent any bottlenecks, one other suggestion is perhaps try an older driver and make certain that windows and the gpu control panel are not running any power saving features and or the Nvidia control panel is not enabling some gimmick feature that gimps the game (such as low latency).

Hope something helps you

EDIT: in GPU Z you can enable min,max and average for the temps and utilization. I set this to max so i can see what the utilization was at its peak, temps especially and or power / voltage readings.

Also you could try deleting the files in C:\Users\username\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club\Renderer\GPUCache they should rebuild on next load, and for some reason the game always returns to window borderless mode each time the game loads I always have to force it back to fullscreen.

I run 2080ti 90% utilisation and get 60-90fps on ultra 2k, at 4k it dances around 60fps with couple of things dropped to high. I feel your card is more catered to the RTX cyberpunk games and you won't get more out these older titles that were made with different cards in mind. Google some benchmarks with 4080s and start comparing, try to narrow your expected baseline down.

As I said, I'm seeing both sites and videos of people hitting 100 in dense areas on 1440p ultra without upscaling. Even bumping up to 4K i'm seeing 70 on average in those same areas. There's no way 50-60 is normal in 1440p, regardless of the card's specialization.

Obsolete hardware, you need to upgrade, you can't be serious with toaster like this in 2023

Thank you, I did previously play this game on a 2080 and 8700k so that would make some sense. I may have even changed my RAM sticks since then. I heard that this new hardware issue could've also been why the game sometimes says my account isn't entitled to it when I try to play, though I got that issue to stop.

It is also using a lot of power, so yea I am trying to look for any place where that might be getting "optimized".

So yea, given how I haven't noticed my pc having these sorts of issues in other places recently, I'd bank on the hardware mismatch. Hopefully I can figure out how to get that straightened out, as admittedly it's not something I've ever really heard of happening before.

Thank you for your detailed response.

are you guys sure you are all on the ultra preset and have done nothing else? cause things like one person having 0x MSAA while another one has 2X MSAA would dramatically alter the expected and actual framerate. I'm pretty sure even the ultra preset only comes with 0xMSAA but people then crank things up beyond ultra without realizing that most benchmarks on youtube and other places dont do this.

Yes, as one of my reference points I've been using Jansn Benchmark's video (m youtube com/watch?v=0du-PKx8UAc) at 4:35.

Yooo, deleting those files you mentioned at the end does indeed seem to have fixed my problem. Now I'm getting 80-120 frames in the benchmark. Goofing around with the AA settings though too at the note of Silver, MSAA does indeed totally destroy the framerate, TAA by itself seems fine though. Thank you everyone.

Glad that helped you out, hopefully this helps others

A side not is that with TAA slider only move the slider to about halfway after that the game can look blurrier after halfway for some reason.

4K / Getting around 100fps here (but lock it at 80fps anyways) with the DLAA mod (which is DLLS with full res/native 4K)just to get rid off TAA. Ultra pretty much everything with some tweak performance (high option) here and there.
Ps: when I bought 4080 I was believing I will get 150fps or something, I was totally wrong.
