Stereo vs Headphones for best sound?

I have a beyerdynamic expensive headset that is stereo and has a 3.5mm jack into my sound blaster card. I can't notice much difference between headphones and stereo setting in the game options nut was wondering if there are any sound experts that could give me some advice please? Thanks

headphones are stereo. i believe the headphone setting is the same, with some of each channel mixed into the other to emphasize speaking and create a false "center" channel.

with my headphones i pick up way more background sounds, like the distant growl of a predator when entering their territory (didn't really notice it on my speakers)
