Fast travel upgrade is a waste of money
You can only use it to fast travel from Arthur's wagon to various towns, but not vice versa. I spend 99% of my time outside of camp and you don't need the upgrade for coach tickets, train tickets, or autotravel, the latter of which I do most of the time. Does anyone else get value from using Arthur's fast travel map on his wagon? Am I playing this wrong? Am I suppose to be hanging out in camp more often?

Just set up a campfire anywhere and you get the option to fast travel. Yeah they really didn't try to make this game mechanic obvious.

It doesn't really matter. You easily will make a minimum of $20K in this game over time.

Plus it should have maybe helped to save before buying things you weren't sure of what they do, how they work etc.

You can use Camp-Fire (bottom sections of ITEMS in your WHEEL) just outside any town, or in the wilderness and fast travel back to camp or other towns, stations from it.

it allows you to get back to camp faster, it also allows you to visit towns from anywhere. Its very much useful. If you are not breaking camp often you wouldn't know why. All but one camp upgrade are useful, its the boat. all it does it make the islands outside of Clemens point easier to explore during that chapter, is it a waste, maybe, it is certainly the easiest way to get a boat and probably is the only one that wont despawn on you while exploring that tiny stretch between blackwater and lemoyne.

The boat is not an upgrade. There are boats that randomly spawn all along the game maps shore for you to use. Visiting those islands is a must so you can grab Iguana, Crabs, and there is also a unique trinket you can find there. As well as a few other things.

There is a problem with using the boat right from that camp though, you will need your Varmint Rifle and Bow. To do that you need to get on your Horse and go to the shore then get just outside the border of the camp. Get off your horse and equip those long weapons. Then walk into camp. If you use the horse it forces you to store your long weapons on the horse. If you walk in on-foot after doing this, now you will have them and you can use the boat to visit those islands. Which again you can do at any point in the game. I never needed a boat for that, just use a horse that has extremely high stamina. The horse might leave the island and go back to main-land, if it does you are not stuck. Simply use Camp-Fire and it will spawn you somewhere on the main-land shore.

its the last item in the ledger during chapter 3 Clemens point, its not an upgrade like the wagons and tents. It is a camp upgrade though, like the chicken coop and hitching post. The boat being the last one.

and yes visiting the islands is the best way to get a few items for Pearson, and a few compendium entries and some other collectibles, and if you are bold enough a risky adventure into blackwater, thieves landing. But, yeah you're gonna die and your boat is going to sink.

It's been said, and I'm quickly learning, that this game makes you rich anyway, so I purchased all upgrades including the boat simply because I can. Will I ever use it? Don't know and don't care.

I'm on a boat. I'm on a boat. Everybody look at me cause I'm standin on a boat.

If you have a hard time getting money without robbing anyone or looting dead strangers who you should have left alone (cause of getting a bad hit to honor for looting innocent dead strangers) then you are seriously doing something wrong. Even with a single help from another player, YouTube video or online guide any player should be able to be have more money then you can spend by Chapter 3 or so.

The only reason I learned to do train robbery without getting any Bounty was so I could complete a Challenge

Now in RDO it's a different story as RDO$ is not so hard to get but you'll need to come up with a good strategy of how you play and partake in various events if you want to rack up that in-game Gold, which will be a required payment method for certain items and upgrades and such.

You just go to a place in the wilderness set up a camp and fast travel from there. You cannot be in a fight though, or in some locations you can set the campfire but is too close to a city to fast travel, just go a little more away try til it woks

of course there's value to Arthur's travel map. What kind of question is that? To you maybe not but to other gamers out there there is. Besides what do you care?

It helps in a way because this saves you from taking the time to move far enough outside the gang camp and then setup camp fire and then fast travel. Can justbdo it from Arthur's wagon after this upgrade. None of that stuff is a waste of money cause the money is easy to come by.

If you'd like to slow down the game pace an open it up to possible random interactions you could also do this...

When out on some random dirt road and you see a wagon come by that can hold a.passenger, right click towards the driver as if to greet them, press E for Call Out. When they respond (if they don't take off on you) ask them if you can get a ride. Then see where that takes you ;-) When the wagon stops to let you in just be sure to approach without weapons or mask and then press E to enter the vehicle. You can eat and smoke on the trip. To end your ride with them press E again.

Sorry I did not realize that the Boat was a Camp Upgrade option until I went back into the game and re-checked that.

Yes I don't see any point to the boat. As boats spawn randomly along various areas of the game's shore-lines anyways if you need an easy way to get to those small islands and such. Overall I was always able to just use my Horse (provided it has very high stamina) to get to all of the small islands as well as the Prison Island, which was needed to go to in order to get a Legendary Fish.
