how do i wash my face in camp?

question in title, i am quite dirty and dont want to go to hotel every time i want to wash.

Yes one of the women will grab you in a cutscene and you wash in a barrel of water, I then spent ages trying to find this barrel with no luck lol

I think the water barrel is just for the cutscene?

You can't do it in camp. You have to go to a hotel and order a hot bath. Ether that or go swimming.

It's weird though, since one of your chores is to refill the wash basin but you can never use it to wash yourself

The only real reason to use the WASH FACE option is to get out of the DRUNK state. This is why there is a wash face barrel inside your Moonshine Shack.

Otherwise just walk up to HORSE and switch outfits to clean your clothes and skin.

RDO doesn't really waste time including options to wash yourself. STORY has this though where you go to Hotel and pay for Bath. Otherwise your gang members and random NPCs might start complaining how much you stink, which really has nothing to do with how dirty your clothes are.

But yea even in STORY its kind of odd since there is no options to wash what-so-ever within the Gang Camp.

When it comes to Rivers/Ponds/Lakes/Swamps, that water is not clean and doesn't wash off the stink. At least how it works in the game anyways. Only a Hotel Bath will do this. Changing clothes just gives a clean appearance is all that does. As a means to get the dirt off, but doesn't change your level of stink, and NPCs make remarks about that from time to time. You should avoid lengthy periods in these waters too because it will quickly impact the degradation for any equipped weapons. Such as Revolvers, Pistols, Rifles, Shotguns. The Bow and other weapons slots doesn't have that so don't have to worry about those, such as anything in the #5 (Knife) or #7 (Lasso) slots.

A few times in Story Mode I remember Karen and a few others in camp making comments. Often it's about your clothes but sometimes they comment about your stink as well. One time I walked up to the Poker Table in Valentine. One guy was like "I can't concentrate over here, due to your foul odor."

You can mod Story Mode if you like however to add more realism stuff to the game. There was one mod I seen where it adds onto the GUI for things like Hunger / Thirst / Tiredness levels

That basin is behind Pearson's wagon so maybe its only for cooking. So washing yourself in it would be gross.

If I remember right, in story mode, you can shave in camp and the little cutscence does show Artur washing his face. I don't know if it gets you clean. Its been a long time since i played as Arthur i don't quite remember.

There is no cut scene. It's just a trim facial hair option.

You can shave at the mirror should cleanup a bit then change your clothes.
Take a dip in a river and swim around for a while cost effective way to wash yourself :)
