If you aren't solo your game is going to crash, a modder is going to mess with you, or a low level player riding by you is going to take advantage of the fact that you're doing something else and won't leave you alone until you spawn kill them several times.
I never crash in a solo server.
The other benefit is legendaries will be more likely to spawn if you've unlocked the Naturalist role as well. Those do make a significant portion of the meter.
I find the best places to farm are the eastern side of the map. Heartlands, Scarlett Meadows, and Roanoke Ridge. The reason for this is I primarily hunt deer, and these areas have the most 3* deer in my experience. Deer are the most frequent 3*s I've come across and they're the most frequent animals. Also a 3* White Buck is about 12 units if I recall.
Always put the perfect deer on your horseback. You want the carcass over the skin. You can drag the other back to your camp. There's no need to go on a long hunting expedition unless you're chasing a legendary.
Let's see what else. Get the Large Wagon if you don't have it, and yes you gotta buy the Medium Wagon first.
The thing about the Trader role is it's a heavy investment before you start seeing returns, but you'll see them pretty quickly with $500 for local deliveries and $625 for distant ones. It takes over 3 hours for 100 goods, so you should be doing something else alongside it. I would personally be miserable if I made this my entire way of making money. It's very much an end game business for people who want to maximize profits.
If you're just looking to make quick cash and XP then the Collector role is just so much better, but maybe you want some of the Trader role unlocks too. I don't know.
Also screw the hunting wagon. Sorry to the fans. I'm so mad that I bought that even though I have thousands of dollars. It spawns in the middle of nowhere, even when I'm looking in the opposite direction of where I want it to spawn. I only use it for those donate X amount of carcasses dailies, so I guess it's not totally useless but certainly not necessary.
The Great Plains is a great area overall because it's easier to spot and hunt animals all around since the area is mostly flat, not to mention they spawn mostly in groups, and not to mention hunting bison and elks (and predators) fill the materials meter more,
Just be careful in that forest area (Tall Trees) because there can be Skinner Brothers ambushes and ofc predators. In the Great Plains there can be "wagon siege defend/rescue" random events as well your occasional wolf/cougar attack too.
Also be wary of players and enemy npcs as well that can raid your camp. A dog will be helpful later on when you unlock their capability to warn you of raids but tbh its not necessary if you weren't getting raided, since it's a very rare occurence anyway (I've never been raided at my camp, for example)
An easy trick to carrying more carcasses is that you can lasso a deer/pronghorn carcass and drag it to your camp while you are riding your horse, while also having another carcass as your horse cargo which means you can carry more than a single large carcass without having a hunting wagon, Also, for some weird reason, the animal carcass being dragged dont deteriorate in value (it stays perfect/good even if you dragged it through rocks, mud etc.) but ofc dont drag it in deep water or itll be lost.
for legendary animals i think being in a solo lobby (theres ways to do that such as RDO lobby manager) where the spawn rate of the legendary animals is more often since you play in a solo lobby- public lobbies make legendary animals spawn less than in solo/private.
