Should I buy this?
Hey, I'm here with a question. Since the game is on sale and I'm looking for a game similar to Last of us before it comes out to spend my time on. I never played RDR before or any previous games like this, would I still be okay to follow the story?

You can follow the story just fine imo (I bought it on sale a few months ago to play for the first time)

Although I never played the last of us or RDR1. It does a very good job of storytelling if you are into that kind of stuff. One of the best RPG's I ever played.

Yep, this game is a prequel to RDR1.

You really don't need to know anything about the first game to enjoy RDR2.
ya worth it for online alone, singleplayer is candy on the side

This is not an rpg, it's a third person shooter with a good story, not a rpg lol!

I never played the the first Red Dead and I thoroughly enjoy this game. I'm on my third play through. And I'm not sure of the definition of rpg (role playing game), but I get super immersed in this game. I can spend hours just roaming, hunting, fighting, train robbing, robbing people etc. Definitely worth it.

Nahhhhhhh. It's a story driven game and that's the reason why people buy this game. Online is the candy on the side. Not the singleplayer.

i never played rd1 .....and just completed rdr2 this morning after 80+ hours LOVED IT......
If you want to play it play it on console not on pc reasons why hackers and bugs like FFFF that crashes the game.

I DO NOT recommend playing the online mode on PC. There’s a lot of cheaters in the PC versions.

The online experience is MUCH better on consoles.

I can't stand online. Story mode is so well done and online is a straight money grab that makes the game look like a cheap hooker.

I played the story mode for about ten hours. I like the slow, deliberate pace of the game, both in story and gameplay. But I stopped playing it in frustration. It wasn't about the aforementioned characteristics of the game, it was the controls that did me in. (I play with an Xbox One controller and that is 100% my preference to play a game like this with a controller.) The controls are horrendous. Normally, that isn't something that I have a problem with, but here, they just don't work how they feel like they should. I get it that Arthur isn't super human. I get that this is supposed to feel realistic and have weight and momentum. But it seems like the controls are confused with themselves. It seems like context sensitive actions don't want to work properly. Arthur will stagger around when I'm trying to take cover, change direction, take aim with a firearm and more. Coupling this with the design choice for movements to be natural and therefore not video gamey and fast, when he starts wrong actions they can't be corrected quickly. Even walking around camp is kind of a chore from a controls perspective (not that he's walking, not that it's a realistic slow pace, it's that the controls are junk and are bad at interfacing what I want to do and what occurs on screen). About the only time the game's controls feel sort of right is when I'm in a fist fight, which ironically is usually one of the worst points in these types of games.

And it sucks that this is so terrible, because I want to love this game.

This game clearly has soooooo much going for it. There are a lot of things that I am in love with, enthusiastic about, or want to get to know better. But these controls are just a stone wall between me and that.

I intend to give it a break that I am in the middle of and playing some other games, and coming back to give it a serious second chance and try really hard to get it to where I can either learn or blend with and accept the controls, but it makes it nigh unplayable for me. Personally, I can't in good conscience recommend this game because of the controls. Even if I would say so much else about it is amazing. At the very least, nota bene because of the controls and how it handles.

the controls are fine skill issue tbh

Then there must be some weird learning curve to them. I play various other action/open world games and do not have these kinds of problems. Not saying I'm pro or anything, but I'll play action games on harder settings and not encounter these kinds of issues. This is specifically this game.
