You have a binding problem , what you need to do is grease your pc , I’m partial to lithium grease

expand on "high-end" components of your PC
gpu sucks that's the problem

Well if your pc isn’t that good I suggest employing magic or make a deal with the devil

I put the game in borderless windowed mode and, as weird as it sounds, it fixed the whole stuttering issue on DX12. I hope it works for you!

borderless windows does appear to run smoother

then, be sure blur is off, and adjust "quality" and any distances until stutter stops.

old link, but still relevant:

yes . use this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/1502 .

The stutters in saint Denis are caused by a memory leak . i can't confirm if the mod works with DX12 but it does on Vulkan so step 1 . use Vulkan .

If you got an 8gb gpu as an example then use the 7500 or 9000 version .

whatever this guy did fixed the leak . there is a risk of getting the ffffffff error . but if that happens just go 1 version lower . just for reference the default setting on the game is apparently 2500

Also if you have geforce expierience installed (don't know if you're using Nvidia) then press ALT + F3 and use sharpen+ . use TAA and not DLSS or any other form of anti aliasing .

turn off tripple buffering .

turn on vsync and set the refresh rate to 60hz (you can try higher if you got something above a 2080) and use RTSS to cap the game at 60 along with vsync . this will improve frametime by allot .

also you have to follow all these steps

i tried to fix this issue for 2 years and i finally found the solution . people refer to this as the horse slow down bug . it has nothing to do with your horse . the game will leak memory . just for some odd reason slowing down with your horse increases memory usage (probably from motion blur) by a couple of megabytes and that's just enough to go over the game's allowed memory limit

also your game will use slightly more ram and almost all your Vram with this mod depending on the version you use . but that's just the problem . when the game reaches the upper limit of allowed usage the game dumps memory to stop it from crashing causing the stutter . it lasts about 3 seconds then goes away

Sorry for all the explaining but believe me . this bug has annoyed me for years . it for real is the top 1 annoying bug in the game

and also . it requires modding so unless rockstar actually fixes the problem themselves you probably have to stay away from online mode

i'm prettymuch begging rockstar right now on a support ticket to add a slider in game to fix this

it becomes worse on Vulkan because it doesn't dip vram usage when you get the memory leak (ram leak) .

DX12 Dips Vram along with the ram leak . giving the game more time to run before the next stutter

But still . when you try the mod use Vulkan because if the issue gets resolved by the mod Vulkan is the more stable option .

I can confirm this mod works with dx12. The stuttering was very anoying on my rig (ryzen 5600 and rtx 3060ti) and now it's gone. There are still some ocasional stutter from time to time but it's mostly smooth now in Saint Denis. I just had to use 7000 version because with 7500 the game crashed after few minutes.

Update: Saddly it does not work in dx12. The game was crashing on every mod version. But I switch to vulkan and it works flawlessly! Saint Denis is buttery smooth now.

@robox360 . Yeah unfortunately DX12 is usually a mess across the board on many games
