cannot show PS5 controller UI
I have a PS5 controller for this game. But the UI in the game is still ABXY even though I have set the PS5 controller config in steam settings. I also tried DS4windows, still did not work. Can someone fix this before? or rockstar has never prepared to set the PS UI on this game? Thanks

unfortunately, most games in pc and maybe all of them doesn't have other prompts option except the xbox prompts, in this case the only way you have is installing mods that changes the UI prompts. but becareful and follow the instructions to avoid getting banned.

Hello, sorry for the late response. but There is an easy way to get the correct button prompts for the a Sony Playstation Controller.

1.) Enter big picture mode using the expanding window icon on the top right of your steam library window(located next to your profile tab you use to see your total wallet funds)

2.) enter the big picture mode settings by clicking on the gear icon on the header

3.) Find the option "controller Configuration" and enter its setting

4.) uncheck the box for Xinput controller config

5.) check the box for Sony Playstation config

6.) return to big picture modes main menu

7.) click into the library and find RDR2

8.) click on the "manage Game" under the rdr2 window

9.) Click on "controller options" NOT the configuration. its the one under it.

10.) turn off the Forced input options from "global settings" to turned off(this is what natively forces Xinput prompts in game)

11.) Boot the game from big picture mode

and there you have it. ps4/5 controller working with proper button prompts and touch pad.

Hope this helps and feel free to comment if you need any more help!

Hello, thank you for your reply. I did what you said, but the icon in game shows only the windows keyboard, like Q, enter. Not PS5's icon: X, O, square or triangle.
Is that true that this game of steam version does not support the icon of PS5 only for PC and XBOX? Cause I have to turn on "controller options" in your 9.) mentioned to make the PS5 controller working.
Every time what I saw was ABXY not XO square and triangle in the game

Hey! Sorry to hear that it didn't work first time. I noticed that issue at times as well when I first tried.

It does support both ps4/ps5 controller prompts natively. The ini files for Rockstars social club and rdr2 game files contain the button prompts for both Xbox and Playstation.

I know it does because I use ps4 controller for rdr2 and gtav both and have the prompts set to Playstation.

However steam and windows forces xbox as its priority do to...well Microsoft owning both xbox and windows so it makes business sense to do so.

So be sure that in the steam library section. You then go to "properties" under the gear icon. And controller settings. And turn off forced steam input

Here is a youtube link to a short that is easy to follow on that step for a visual idea of what you should be looking for

So like the video said, I should close all of the forced. Gotcha.
And one more question, in your step 3), what I only need to check is PlayStation Configuration Support, right? excluding "Guide button focuses steam" or "Generic Gamepad configuration support"?

I missed something Important. are you wiring your controller to the pc? or using bluetooth connectivity?

I did wire my controller with cable. I tried USB2.0 and USB3.0 as the youtuber said. But still did not work. So I guess maybe this game does not support PS5 promots

But that's just it, RDR2 does support the Sony controller button layouts and OSD prompts. I've seen people playing it on YouTube and at first I thought they were on a PS4 of some sort. Then a person in one video switched to BPM in Steam to make a slight change, confirming the fact that he was on Windows PC and not a Playstation console.

You really shouldn't need DS4-Windows anymore; not for these more modern games. It might be needed for some older games outside of Steam though. But Steam does all the work for you, but it can be something else you need to get used to.

Uninstall DS4-Windows completely. After a PC reboot, go and right click the Sony controller in Device Manager and click Uninstall. Then refresh the device manager and let it detect the controller like a new device again.

Connect your DS5 controller to PC using USB Type-C to Type-A data-sync cable.

Yeah, I use ps4 wired up all the time including RDR2. Not sure why it's giving up so many problems. I'd make sure xbox and generic gamepad configs are turned off in BPM.

This bugged me for the whole of Chapter 2, especially with the different placement of the "X" button versus the prompts the game was giving me. I ended up actually going down the modding route, even though I really didn't want to mod the game going in. You need a simple scripthook file and mod loader file, and a very simple .ini file that forces Playstation button prompts. It's pretty easy.

This is the mod I used:
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/660

It requires Lenny's Mod Loader AND a Scripthook which is annoying but on par for modding the Euphoria engine. They're both linked as requirements on the actual mod page above.

It is ridiculous that there's no native button prompt detection, though. When will Windows/Steam/game developers sort their stuff out and stop having this weird hard-on for Xbox prompts? Thankfully we have the option to mod on PC, compared to other issues I had while playing the game on PS4, but it does annoy me a bit that it's required to make the game work properly with an incredibly common peripheral.

Yeah, I tried, maybe it only support PS4 controller, not PS5 controller. Unfortunately, I only get PS5 controller.
