RDR2 can't run | SOLUTION! error 0xc0000005 in launcher.log
My game couldn't run at all. After 7 hours of trying every solution with Rockstar support
- clean reinstall,
- new user with admin rights on my PC,
- updating GPU drivers,
- deleting settings from the documents folder,
- ending tasks in Task Manager,
- disabling Windows Defender firewall,
- using a VPN,
- checking the integrity of files,
- running 'sfc /scannow' in CMD,
- deleting the Rockstar Games launcher and all folders related to it

I checked the 'launcher.log' file in C:\Users{username}\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher and saw that it was crashing with error exception code: 0xc0000005.

I found a solution on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/RedDeadOnline/comments/j3w0bm/rdr2_crashes_on_startup_exception_code_0xc0000005/) where user 'According-Metal1259' had the same issue and was able to fix it by uninstalling 'Mirillis Action!'. I tried it and it worked for me too. I hope this helps someone because I spent more than 7 hours trying to find a solution and even Rockstar support couldn't help me.

Forgive me for spamming this solution to more than one thread. Hopefully it'll help you. I've done almost all that stuff the OP did as well, and this was the only thing that I ended up needing to fix:

There's a "system.xml" file in your Documents > Rockstar Games > Red Dead Redemption 2 > Settings folder (or there should be anyway). Try changing the graphics API in the <API> line. If it says "kSettingAPI_Vulkan" then change it to "kSettingAPI_DX12", or vice versa. This won't hurt anything and might fix your problem.

Here's a template system.xml file if, like me, you already deleted this file in the process of trying to get everything working again and need to recreate it from scratch.

I would like to add that uninstalling Mirillis Action! did solve the issue for me, too.
Out of curiosity I then installed a newer version (latest available) today, and that also works fine, which is good news :D

bro I'm going to cry I was six months trying to fix this bug and I just had to delete "Action" nothing else!!! thank you very much Steam community.
The game crashes when there are recording schedules such as Xbox Game Bar, Nvidia GeForce, etc.
Thank you a lot for this tip i uninstall Mirillis Action! and reinstall it with the new version of Action (march 2023) and i can launch it and play Red dead 2.

So mirrillis action is a screen recording software. The RDR not starting seems to have issue with overlays that are started with the game. My friend had some old recording software overlay in RDR files of what he didn't use anymore and deleting that line helped starting the game. This is a weird issue but so much tied to the overlays of different recording softwares....

For me it was Bandicam
I've just run C:\Program Files (x86)\Bandicam\UnregVulkanLayer.bat
and after that game started normally.

After fighting 2 days with the same problem I found this thread. Updating Action! to latest version solved my problem. Thank you.

Thanks Dude, This helps!.
why RockStar put an option that could crash the game into sync list ! (I have two PCs, and the settings should be synced from the anther )

Automatic translation french/english :
Thank you infinitely!

It's been over a year and a half that I was looking for the solution.

And I spent almost 3 months with this bunch of rockstar support, unable to read the messages that are sent to them and answer something other than "reboot your PC" and other gender joy.

En la sección de configuración por programa no?

Hace años que no abro el juego, lo volví a instalar para jugarlo un poco, sacar fotos y por ahora no quiere abrir :feelscry::griin:
