Pressing verify files and then pausing it after it goes for a second fixes it for me everytime I get it for some reason. You don't need to let it download or at least I haven't in my case.

Go to Steam settings, go to shader pre-caching, you will see allow background processing of Vulkan shaders, it is disabled by default, enable that. Then in your game go to options, it will default to the Vulkan API, you will want to switch this to the DX12 API, you will want to set Nvidia DLSS to enabled+boosted. You will need to restart your game when you make these changes, you might have to do it once or twice to get the settings to stick. Once they stick you are good to go, all these changes will solve the FFFFFFF error and this will solve the Video Memory leak that will also cause problems. Now if you are getting this error in RDO still even after making these changes then that is the product of a modder in your lobby crashing you and probably everyone in the lobby out as this is one of the go to ways to crash people, it's tied to an old camp theme that Rockstar took the ability to choose but it's still in the games code and therefor is exploitable, and the modders exploit it pretty often.

Didn't seem to help. I just lost a ton of money worth of hunting animals. Was on my way to sell it all but nope. FFFFFFFF in the chat for me.

Change it to DX12, usually fixes it. Might get the GFX out of memory error but not as often.

Do this if you get this error:

Imagine if dX12 didn't crash your game, which it does.

If this was in RDO and you did set all of those settings I listed there then you are likely experiencing a crash related to a modder being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, in which case there is nothing you can do about it. You can follow this guide to setup a private free roam session that will remove modders from the equation entirely though and you can have anybody you actually want to play with do the same thing and free roam will just put you in a specific instance that only people with the same file as you can join. This will not impede the ability to do content that requires loading into an instanced area like the poker table glitch does. Just a completely safe version of free roam free of all the greifers and cheaters, a wonderful place for just you and your friends, cannot recommend it enough. All my crashing completely stopped once I had the right settings and removed all other players from the equation. Shocker modders are doing what they do best and ruining an otherwise great game. Anyone who says modders don't cause problems are blind, all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that modders do in a lobby further contributes to instability in the session ultimately breaking it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFd2af8wINE

I'm just saying since switching to DX12 I've not had a single issue, and since playing in solo lobbies in online without modders, I've also not had a single crash, literally just did a 7 hour non-stop session with a friend without a single crash.

Switching too it crashed my game on start up. It was forcing an insane resolution and going into settings instead of getting FFFFF I was getting the GFX thing. Games just cooked atm.

So the GFX_STATE_ERROR is tied to some files in your documents, go to documents, Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2, then Settings, you will see some files in there starting with sga, this files do get corrupted from time to time when you change settings, you will likely see 3 associated with Vulkan, and 3 associated with win32 (these are the ones associated with DirectX12, delete all files starting with sga, when you launch the game these files will be re-created with the correct information in them, the GFX_STATE_ERROR is a common issue with Red Dead regardless of the API you use.

Yeah okay, I guess every single person playing RDO who is getting FFFFFF are just unlucky.
Morte Deus Jan 7, 2023 @ 10:30pm
I was getting this until i did the solo hack, it's some code you have to save in a notepad and add to your rdr folder, it worked and stopped all the modders. you can search the tube for solo session in rdr2

No it has nothing to do with luck, if you go to Steam Settings, then Shader Pre-Caching, and enable background processing of Vulkan shaders, then in-game set Nvidia Reflex-Low Latency to Enabled+Boost, then set Nvidia DLSS to balanced, and use the DX12 API all the problems that exist from the latest update are worked around with these settings at least until Rockstar or Nvidia release a proper fix, neither of which is coming. The FFFFFF error caused by modders is tied to the wilderness camp theme that is still in the games code but not accessible by legitimate players, unless a modder is in your lobby and uses their wonderful mod menu to force that theme that is forcible because it's still in the games code thus causing the crash. If you want to call it luck fine but it isn't luck, I've tried to help you in every way that can I've told you everything I have done about a week ago to solve my FFFFFFF problem that shocker was coming from modders because once I removed other players from the equation all of my crashing mysteriously stopped, but it must be luck right. It's not my fault you'd rather just complain than work with any of the solutions I have provided. If you're plan is to wait for Rockstar to fix it then you'll just never play the game because they will not fix it, they have already confirmed that all updates for Red Dead Redemption 2/Red Dead Online are done, the only thing they will do from now on is turn the snow on in the winter time. Here's another little fun bit of information, the mos current go to mod menu that has guaranteed crash button in it's description as one of the things it can do has 5,000 confirmed owners of the mod menu. Given how small the active player base is for RDO you're going to always have a modder in your lobby no matter what.

So how does this explain getting FFFFFF loading into the game? That ain't modders. Or changing the API crashes the game as well.
