Stutter
Even when I have the game at its lowest settings I still get stutter. I've even turned the fps down to 30 and it still stutters. What can I do?
Intel i7, 64Gb Ram, I have the game installed on an nvme. GTX 1660

I was having like stop motion freezing on and off. I did a couple things, I installed the original chipset drivers and sound drivers from the motherboards manufacturer. And I disabled my onboard graphics in the bios. One of those things cleared it all up for me

All the drivers are the latest, and I'm using a laptop, I only have the one graphics card. Thanks for replying, Is there anything else I can try?

we more or less have similar rigs and trust me when i tell u that after having played this 11x applying all combinations be it w/in the game or NV control panel, nothing short of upgrading to high end, next gen rigs can ever solve our problems. I tried DX12 and Vulkan turned it all to low n off but it seems the game refuses to adjust to remove the stuttering n fps drops.

So until i can buy a new set up worthy of this beast, i'd have to take what it gives me and accept it.
(ps - gamers w/ much powerful rigs than ours also have similar complaints).

I refuse to believe that I was able to play this on an xbox one s with no issues. But with a stronger machine it's doing this, there must be something deeper involved. Thanks for replying.

probably a stupid question, since you must have already thought of it, but is your laptop plugged in and battery set to "best performance"? I don't have this game but was interested in playing it, I also have a laptop similar to yours.

No question is stupid, that's a reasonable question to ask. And yes I did have the battery set to high performance and it is plugged in. I'm starting to believe it has to be something deeper than just changing settings, something about the code or the way the game interacts with the hardware or something. Thanks for replying.

it could be worth looking in the games redistributables folder and installing the vcred and dx installers or try using something like the msi afterburner to monitor a lot of your system and see if something is getting hot and throttling or hitting its limit, might give you a clue as to whats not working.
That said the game still hitches and has some stutters fairly often on high end desktops, it's not so bad offline but the online mode just isn't as stable, it's totally playable and far better than the console versions but its far from flawless or as cared for as gta.

My destrib folder only has vulkan installers, and I've done that, I've never used msi afterburner so I will look into that, Thank for you help, I appreciate it.

I've just solved my stutter problem after 2+ hours of testing. Turns out that changing my power setting in Windows to High Performance solved it. It turns out that my CPU (Intel i7-8700k) was constantly speedstepping to lower frequencies at <balanced power>. High performance fixed ALL my stutters. Butter smooth now. (Haven't tried St-Denis yet, but benchmark demonstrate butter smoothness ;)).

Note that this is the first time I got a game issues fixed that way.

I restore the power config to <balanced> afterward since I don't need 4ghz while browsing the internet. Kinda annoying to have to do it everytime, but soooo worth it for a smooth experience.

the stutters happen because of a memory leak tied to NPC's this is why it only stutters in saint Denis and in valentine (only during daytime in valentine) and very rarely in black water (strawberry has too few npc's for this issue) there is a mod to fix this

https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/1502

unfortunately it requires modding . capping fps to 60 hz . turning on vsync . turning off tripple buffering and you probably have to use Vulkan for the mod to work . i never tested DX12 but DX12 is a universally unstable API

also use RTSS to cap the game to 60FPS a second time . RTSS improves on frametime drastically making stutters less visible and sometimes removing them completely . however the mod is the most important player in fixing the Saint Denis issue . RTSS is just for everywhere else .

Vulkan makes the issue seem worse but along with the mod Vulkan is way way better because Vulkan isn't nearly as unstable as DX12

upgrading hardware wont fix a thing because the bug exists in game . Saint Denis actually has lower GPU utilisation than some other areas of the map yet Saint Denis is guaranteed to stutter where other places would not

i wish there was an easier way to post this fix because replying to every thread takes too long . this is the top 1 most annoying bug in the game . the more people know about it the better

if there is an easier way to provide this info let me know because there are a few more factors to this . i'm just too lazy to type them all out all the time . fixing the problem totally requires allot of fine tuning

i don't have the game on steam but i do have it on the rockstar games launcher . yet i don't think that makes a difference
