Lurk around the forums for a few days and you'll see plenty of posts about people complaining Rockstar simply doesn't care about online. They don't, they're over it. I've never touched it, never will, so RDO doesn't matter to me, but evidently they care so little that there are people asking around whether anyone knows if they plan to shut RDO down sometime soon. That's how much they don't give a F.
Take this as a lesson, unless you have an active treasure map, do not open random treasure chests. Also, be wary of allowing randoms into your posse or joining random posses, taking random legendary animals from people, skinning and selling any animals that are spawned by cheaters. It is a laundry list of things new players must be on their guard for.
Best of luck in the game!
Bans are automated. It resets on Tuesday's their time. So tomorrow est-mst. If you have not got banned, or a warning by tomorrow. You are more than likely fine.
Just don't make a habit of it, they tell you on the site about hackers under their help, not to open loot boxes that look out of place or were spawned, as they will not be held liable by banning you (Because it's all automated).
Thanks for the info from both of you, I guess I will see how it goes.
A few years ago In GTA Online I had cheated money “rained” on top of me. I knew roughly how much cheated funds were added to my account so I reached out to Rockstar Support and asked them to remove it (I also had concerns about getting banned).
The process was a pain in the neck; however, after some back-and-forth’ing Rockstar removed the cheated money. My character never got banned.
Rockstar Customer Support can be difficult to work with sometimes. It can take a day or two before you hear back and often you’ll just get a useless bot responding to your ticket.
If the reply doesn’t contain a support representative’s name, you got a bot. Specify in your ticket that you want to speak with a human. If that person can’t help you, ask to be connected with a Support Lead or Supervisor. Eventually you should get connected with someone who can help you.
Early in Red Dead Online’s life there were a ton of threads about players getting banned for opening cheated chests, or donating cheated animals to Cripps/Butcher.
Nowadays, you really don’t see those threads anymore. Has Rockstar given up on trying to control cheating, or are there just far fewer players online now so the likelihood of someone posting about their experience is far less? I’m not sure.
Personally, I would contact Rockstar Support and try to get the cheated funds removed. Let them know you were tricked into opening the chests and would like your character reset to a time before you opened them, or you would like the cheated funds deleted.
At least that gives you a “paper-trail” so if your account does get banned, you can show them you made an honest effort to set things right. :/
I tried to reach out to them in two ways, first I made two cheater reports in the RDO section of their support tickets. I never got a confirmation that they had been sent like you might with a normal ticket. There's no support option concerning what I need done, so I tried also separately emailing their support email. Of course their support email does not take in-coming emails. I do not know what else I can do :/.
