Why am I multi-tapping now?
Why am I multi-tapping now?

I just played the game to 86% and I got the end credits. Apparently that's one ending to the game, at 86% thru. So, anyways, I started again. However, now when I use Dead Eye it's not doing the same as the first game. Throughout the whole 1st game, when I used Dead Eye, time slowed down and red "Kill" spots appeared on the prey, I would point the gun at one of these red "Kill" spots and I fired once and a red X would appear where I fired and the gun would fire once usually killing the prey. But now, the 2nd time playing this game, when I use Dead Eye, I point the gun at some prey and the game automatically clicks a red X the moment the gun points at any place on the prey but then adds multiple red Xs as I move the gun trying to aim at the red "Kill" spot and when I fire it shoots as many times as there are red Xs and the prey ends up as mince meat totally destroying it's perfect score. Why is the game now doing that and how do I stop it cos it damn annoying, destructive, and useless in this game?

Maybe you simply don't remember how the game starts. When you first start out, the Dead-Eye X's are tapped into place as you mouse over areas of a given target. Later in the Story (some where in Chapter 2) this changes to where you have to press a key (Q by default) in order to tap-in your X's onto the targets, after activating Dead-Eye. I for one got rid of that Q key option and bound it to a mouse button. As it made it a pain to do Dead-Eye while sprinting around on my horse.

So are you telling me you started a new game without playing AFTER the credits? :steamfacepalm:

Umm, the game never had tapping the 1st time I played it. I never once used Q nor did I know I had to use Q (I guess I missed seeing that being told to me). I'm serious, the 1st time around I never had tapping, ever.
So, you say that it will change soon, in game, and will stop auto-tapping umm, go back to how it use to work for me??

Yes, I did roam around after the credits but it got boring with nothing to do except hunt and be told that the last few Legendary animals won't be around for a while without telling just how long "a while" will be. No more quests so no more game, I assumed. But I still have the game saved so I can go back and look around for old times sake.

If I remember correctly; this change happens once you reach a certain level of Dead-Eye.

Your first play through, you must have rushed and never got your Dead-Eye level very high.

Anyways if your Dead-Eye tagging was always automatically, well that's dumb. Like who can even play the game that way.

So that isn't normal, to auto-tag? And yes it is veeeeeeery annoying and makes game play impracticable. When it first did it it emptied the whole gun on a target. That blew me away as much as it blew the target away. I don't know how I've started playing this game for a 2nd time and still did not see anything about using the "Q" with Dead Eye. I especially haven't seen anything about auto-tagging. Buuuut, this game is stupid when it does come to explaining things. I have missed a few things being explained in text top left corner cos I'm too busy trying to drive a wagon or in the middle of a gun battle and I'm too busy shooting to save my life too even notice any messages. God knows what I have missed out on knowing and have played the whole game without using something, like "Q" tagging, that made the game easier.

Enter Story Mode > once loaded in > press ESC > HELP
It should explain it there.

Again auto-tagging happens when the game starts out and when your dead-eye level is low. You can level up fairly quickly to around 80% or so by the middle/end of Chapter 2.

When you are using the auto-tag version though, just be ready, move the mouse over a head to tag yourself a headshot. If you are aiming at the target and enter dead-eye then shoot as soon as it tags the target. If trying to take out multiple targets with it like this, then move the mouse on and off multiple targets as best you can. But yes hunting animals with it this way wasn't really intended. Probably the only time I like it on is when I had to take out the bear with Hosea.

That's how the game starts dude

Yeah, I'll definitely will be looking in the help for the game's info I've been missing out on... especially now that I know I actually went the whole game without knowing or using "Q" with Dead Eye.. Is that funnier than sad or sadder than funny?

Well i ain't gonna judge you too much because you're the first steam user I've seen who admitted it was his bad instead of just blaming the game.

As someone else mentioned, the game starts out with deadeye automatically marking shots for you. It changes after a certain story in the second chapter, I believe it's after a train or coach robbery of some kind. The one with Sean maybe?

Once that happens, the auto marking stops and you need to manually mark targets. The game never told me this, it just decided to switch. Fortunately I knew it would happen because the automarking was so stupid I was like "please tell me this is a glitch." However, manually marking targets isn't the only way to use deadeye as you've obviously discovered, because you went the whole game just using it to simply aim and shoot in slow motion one target at a time.

If only that was true about me not blaming the game, umm, you should see my, "No good deed goes unpunished", they say... sigh, Thread .. must be 10 pages of me blaming the game. Most of it is tongue in cheek but still legit gripe about this game.

Yeah, the first Dead Eye you get is the same as Online's "Paint it Black" with slowmo. Then it progresses to slower motion, then tagging manually, then being able to shoot in dead eye without tagging and without it turning off completely.

I only just now realized that you're right. Deadeye has continued to upgrade as I've played the game and I didn't even realize how or why, I'm guessing it's because I leveled it up.

God, so many things in this game just poorly explained or not at all. I did shoot one time without a tag and deadeye didn't end, and I thought maybe the times it had ended before, I had just run out or something.

I know what you mean. Cos of this auto-tagging I Googled it and mostly all I found was ppl telling us about the "Q" button option. Not one explanation anywhere about Auto-tagging. As it is, Googling it was how I found out about the "Q" button and not from the game cos it terrible that way. That's why I went the whole 1st time playing without ever knowing about nor using the "Q".

Like I've already said, go look at my thread, "No good deed goes unpunished", they say... sigh, and see the 10 pages of gripes I've had with this game. It's not even near half the gripes I have found. Go and add your own, I wanna see how long that thread can be.

...I wonder if cos now days games come out in so many different languages that it's near impossible to translate game play, how to do things in a game, to make sense in all the languages, so they just don't bother explaining anything any more? Or is it just game developers being lazy?.

In RDR2 it explains things that are new via a popup in the upper left hand corner. It doesn't hold you damn hand like some games.

This game is offered around the world in MANY languages and all of the in-game text is accurate per the available languages.

What do you need like a lengthy step by step video tutorial? Lord help you in the real world.

Oh, Bad, please don't do this, you're just arguing and trying to do that with nonsense. You weren't born with every bit of knowledge there is. What you do know, you were taught it. And sometimes even had your hand held, like when you learnt to walk. Any game without any information about it or how to play it would fail cos no one would know about it. This game gathered it's main interest due to it's awe-inspiring graphics and fun interactive game play. But many many players have been disappointed with the lazy lack of explanation with how to play the game. As for that popup stuff top left of screen, didn't I already say I missed a lot of that quickly shown information at top left of the screen cos I'm either too busy steering a wagon or in the middle of some deadly gun battle. ..There are only 3 ppl that have commented in this thread so for but 2 of us agree that we have not known things about this game cos this game lacked giving us the information that the game should have given.
