Cannot cook skinned corpse?

So if I have a deer I killed in my arms which I have not skinned it gives me the option to cook it. Once I skin it though, the option to cook it disappears when I carry it.

How do I cook a skinned animal?

You can't, it's because you "loot" its meat when you skin it. Weird mechanic, but no game is perfect.

The meat and anything else you can harvest from a skinned animal goes into your satchel.

You can cook the meat from your skinned animal by going to your campfire or setting up a camp in the wilderness.
