Performance and Settings Issues
Okay so I got RDR2 not too long ago and when I played the story mode, everything was extremely laggy and it looked as if I was playing on 10 fps which doesn’t make sense. I use a laptop that has an 11th gen i7 core cpu and a 3060 RTX gpu and I have 16 GB of ram. RDR2 takes up around 6 - 7 GB of ram. So I have no clue why my performance is so bad if my specs of my laptop are way beyond the requirements I need. Can someone please help me fix this?

In my opinion Laptops suffer from heat.
Do you elevate it.
RDR2 is very heavy on gpu and requires a dedicated gpu not the onboard, how much vram does your gpu use?
Is drivers up to date?
Ingame graphics shopws how much Vram is being used try reducing any apps. update drivers for GPU.
In your device manager check its using the dedicated gpu not the integrated motherboard.
RDR2 has built in benchtest why dont you test your system with it.
to run the Red Dead Redemption 2 benchmark
Click Settings
Select Graphics
Tweak whichever graphics settings you’d like to or select a preset (note that the maximum preset doesn’t actually max out every graphic setting — you’ll need to do that manually if that’s your goal)
Press Run Benchmark Tests to begin the benchmark

I go to a site called .... Can You Run It| Can I Run it|Can My PC Run It. I think you get the idea what they do. Search a game. Scan your rig to see if it's up to par.

Heat is what comes first to my mind too when I read laptop. But 10fps is extremely low. sure you have selected the correct gpu in the game settings?
If it is a heat issue you can also turn down the cpu max state a bit in windows power settings

Okay so my laptop gpu temperature is around 40 degrees due to the fact that I get around 10 fps in RDR2, so it isn’t heating so it has to be my settings but there’s nothing really wrong with my settings. I have my output adapter set to 1 which is my 3060 gpu right? And output 0 is integrated graphics but my graphics is fine it’s just my fps which is weird.

With NVIDIA, there's a simpler way.

Use Geforce Experience optimization for baseline - it is well tuned for RDR2

The RDR2 default settings are simply terrible,

After baseline, and running benchmark, then turn down high impact items:

Remember that Resolution Matters !!!
4k resolution is ~100% more pixels than 2k, but a 3070 is only ~65% more than a 1070.

Idk but it's running fine with 60-80fps on my old GTX 1070 TI :/

Okay so update, I’m able to run RDR2 over 60 fps now so it’s very smooth which is nice because all I had to do was change my output adapter to 0. Thanks for all the help though! It did help!
